Private Health Insurance for people over 60 in Portugal
Hello, Hope someone can help me here. I would like to obtain long term private health insurance while I continue my stay in Portugal. So far I have a list of Aetna, Allianz, BUPA Global and Cigna. Does anyone 60-65 years old have any experience of applying for and using these companies? It would be a great help if you could give some advice as it's very hard to know the differences by just looking at the web sites.

Allianz via Medal is the cheapest and has no age limit. They have 3 different categories ranging in cover. I chose the second one when I was 61 years old and it cost me about € 750.00 (I don't smoke and only have high BP) per year payable every December as a lump sum.

Agree with both replies above, but would add;
There is an age limit for joining [70 years]. Once you're in, you can stay in as long as you keep up with the payments.
We have used the coverage a LOT and it's been great.
