Default Pound Plunging Again

The pound has nosedived this morning, once again I think, due to bank shares plummeting.

They have a lot to answer for and unfortunately, they're not going to.

Pity we can't put these people in the stocks or ducking stool and let the public make their feelings felt at a personal level for all the suffering they have caused

perhaps they will publicly donate it to comic relief and be national hero's.

or continue to be greedy, in which case they need every penny for the protection they will have to have:curse: but knowing this government, we will have to pay for it out of public funds, leaving them with heaving bank accounts:curse:

What should happen is that these failing businesses (the banks) should be allowed to go bust. Staff given p45s including those managers. Then the Givt steps in, buys the shares as they are almost worthless and appoints new managers, and staff on SALARIES, with no bonuses. That way there will be no bonuses for the failing management.
The salaries are the rewards for doing the job.
I see that Llodys are going to give £80 million in bonuses although they will need to receive Govt. funds to keep afloat!

Really good today, to see the banks dropping saver rates even lower and increasing loan, credit card and overdraft rates.

It is even being mentioned that they may soon want to charge customers for holding their money... they are truly a blight on the world. :curse:

On this matter, whenever we have had a bank account in PT we have been charged a monthly fee. I remember when I was younger leaving 5000 escudos in my account and when I went back on holiday it had all gone having been wiped out by fees. I argued with the bank saying in the UK we don't pay fees unless it's a business account and they looked at me as if I had two heads.

Is it still the same in PT? Or have things moved on?

There are fees for certain services, as there are in Spain.

British banks talk about free banking, but of course it's not really, their charges cover what used to be a monthly fee, but it's hidden. If you carry a regular credit balance there appears to be no fees, however, the interest on a current account, even in the better times was minimal, so they were using tens of thousands customer balances in overnight deposits to generate income for themselves, while the customer gets next to nothing.

The ongoing saga about bank charges just highlights how the banks have been screwing customers for years. If they really felt they had a case, they wouldn't have paid up those cases they did before they managed to get an injunction while the fought the claims in court, which they now look like losing. Of course they have delayed things a long time, so the money they might have to repay will no doubt come out of the money the taxpayer has given them via the government. :curse::curse:

I think we pay €5 a month fees if our balance falls below €500 euros or maybe it's a €1000. We're with Millennium.

Is there any chance something will happen by the summer to encourage people to holiday on the continent?

I'm not money minded at all so I'm probably being very naive by thinking it could be made to happen... but maybe if there is a drop in tourists by the end of the summer it could go in our favour?
