Default Portuguese Conversation Classes Lisbon

Has anyone attended conversation classes or learned Portuguese using a tutor in Lisbon? I'm really keen to improve my Portuguese and would really like to hear any advice or recommendations, particularly about quality/costs. Thanks.

Hello Paul, I know you may be primarily looking for individual lessons, but perhaps to supplement these you may wish to know about some conversational Portuguese sessions. I have no first-hand experience, but they seem like social events where you get to practice Portuguese in exchange for helping to pass on your English skills. I found these groups through the meetup.com website. There are other social events in Lisbon you may be interested in. Please see the following link:

From this list, I have picked out two language groups:

http://www.meetup.com/Lisbon-English-Language-Meetup/

http://www.meetup.com/Lisbon-Portugu...lish-Exchange/

I think the tutor approach is wise (especially for a beginner), but these groups could be an interesting addition.

Unfortunately I can't help there. I am not yet living in Portugal, but when I do make the move the first thing I shall do is look for a tutor. I've no idea what the cost would be, but I would think it's money well spent. Good luck with your search for a tutor, and I hope you are enjoying life in Lisbon.

Have you considered knowledge exchange? Do you know any other language bar English or have anything else to offer?

Hi Charlee, thanks for the suggestion, I'm reasonably proficient in Spanish, having lived there for almost 5 years, so that would be option in terms of knowledge exchange. However, at present my main focus is on grappling to learn European Portuguese and the tricky pronuciation which, compared to Spanish, can sound like an Eastern European language! This is one of the main reasons that I need to find a tutor!

As I'm still in the UK I have one to one SKYPE lessons. For 45 minutes I pay about £16. It's not perfect but the best solution I could find.
