I was going to attach this to the IVA thread but decided it's better on its own

Re: One-off tax
I think that there are going to be some people who will really struggle over the next year to make ends meet especially as the wages are so low in Portugal. The hike in IVA on gas and electric (which nearly everyone uses) will really hit hard and it comes just before Christmas and the (normal) yearly increase from EDP on prices.
I know that in UK there are going to be price increases in electric and gas, but at least in UK there is a choice as to which provider you use, in Portugal you are stuffed with just one company.
And, from what I read in the news, although the unemployment rate has gone up in UK, the number unemployed in Portugal is at an all time high.
Hard time ahead I think
Joao
