Re: No IMI

We both received ours in the Uk despite the fact that previously one was sent to UK and one to Portugal we haven’t been to office to ask for this to be changed so they have done it. Now we will need to go to office and ask for them both to be changed to Portugal as we both have residency now mainly thanks to the help from this group.

Hi campanula , now that you have residencia why would you want to change address ? Forgive me if I'm wrong but my understanding is that it's only non resident property owners , like myself , who need to appoint a Fiscal Rep and change the address to which the IMI bill is sent .

No. If you're UK address is still on their file, even if resident that needs to be changed to your PT address. I had to do that that this winter.
However I now seem to have a problem in that my OH has had his notification(via CTT mail) about 2 weeks ago and I haven't despite also being on CTT and having my PT address at financas. Are they still sending out notices does anyone know? Starting to get a bit concerned as I believe they are due for payment by the end of this month and we are back to the UK for a short while in a couple of weeks.

Yes IMI bills are still being sent out but only up until the end of June , by which time all non resident prpperty owners should have appointed their FR and had the address changed accordingly .

Probably to avoid the fine that can be applied for failing to notify Finanças within 60 days of a change of address.

Re: No IMI

Mine came in the mail today (in Portugal)
I notice there's a charge for the agricultural plots this year; I don't remember that being the case before.
54 cents.
I find this interesting; although the sum is pretty close to zero, it will establish contact with owners of vacant rural plots.

I still can't pay my car road tax though, which is due in June. I can usually pay that any time after Jan. 1 of the year.

For some reason one bill was sent to UK and one to Portugal in the past. This year both sent to UK even though I hadn’t changed anything so now with residency I need to change the address to Portugal and my heart sinks every time I have to go to that office

Payment of the IMI can now be done on line following the instructions on the notification (may only be via a PT bank account?) which means you do not have to be in PT to do the payment at the ATM or Financas Office, but receiving the notice at your PT address could be a problem if you are in the UK. Might be worth going into the office if you have not received it before you go back to Uk ... The notices do go out to individuals rather than per property so there may well be a gap between them for a couple.

Once I signed up for notifications through ViaCTT I no longer received anything through snail mail. It may or may not be relevant that I am non-resident.

toots sweet , have you checked either or both of your ViaCTT mailbox or the Portal das Finanças for the payment details? The notification from ViaCTT that you have a new document may have been filtered to spam?

Re: No IMI

Yes. Checked again yesterday. No CTT notification. On the financas website there shows my last 2 payments for 2019 and 2020(payment is for 1 year in arrears I believe) but nothing asking for this years payment.
If anyone is particularly knowledgeable about the financas website could they tell me what it means (in the movimentos financeiros/informacao financeira/resumo de cobranca sections) in the additional info part what that is about .There is an amount(valor emitado/valor anulado .Know what is means literally but I have no idea what it refers to. Its got no relation to the 2 payments of my last 2 IMI's below).
PS .My ability to read PT is fine ,but this stuff has got me bewildered. Can't find how to translate to english.. any help greatly appreciated.

Sorry I don’t know the answer but if you can find an email address somewhere on the website you can email your name fiscal number etc and they will email you the bill. I have previously done this with success

If your IMI is payable in more than one instalment there will be an amount and payment reference for each instalment. There will also be an amount and payment reference for the total annual amount (in case you want to pay it all at once) which gets anulado/cancelled if/when the first instalment is paid. Does that match what you're seeing?
