In classic internet fashion, the original poster has never returned after asking a question and this thread has gone in a direction of its own. :)

The poster was on here yesterday so has probably seen the way that the thread has gone.

Read all this with interest feeling a bit miffed that I was stuck in UK for 3 months and still paying for MEO . My contract is finished . What alternative could I use for internet on phone and tv on a firestick cheaper than tv/phone/internet package and pay when using. I don’t mind buying a device to get started . I have Smarty sim that would keep me connected till I reconnected

What were you paying for your MEO contract and how much data were you using. Is the data only for you, are there others to consider?

The cost of other options could depend on how much data you need. For example, when I travel to a location not included in roaming agreements, I use an Airalo eSIM. They have some 15 and 30 day options for Portugal, but I don't know if they work for your data needs - https://www.airalo.com/portugal-esim

It was €41 a month I don’t know how much data I use with MEO probably not that much . I use less than 50gb with my smarty sim and so does one other phone user . The internet i need would be same or less than that and whatever a few hours a day of tv on firestick would use.

Just set up unlimited Data only mobile sim with Vodafone PT.
(well it calls it unlimited, but of you use more than 200GB in a month then the max dL speed will be 10mbs)
This is NOT a fixed term contract and can be suspended for up to 3 months (or used abroad).
Cost is €32.00/mth
Only needed due to UK TV only available over Internet

That would be better, how easy is it to suspend it and restart. I will go to Vodafone shop for some info

According https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-mu...ing-video-use/ an hour of streaming HD video would use 2-3 GB of data.
So, 2 hours per day works out to 120-180 GB per month. . Standard def video uses less, 4K video uses more.

Depends on the size of screen you re watching on. For example I have watched many HD films online and switched to 360 resolution, result when watched on a 6.6" smart phone is superb.
That saves almost 50% of data, with no noticeable drop in quality. On 50" TV however as you say useless.
But 15" laptop at 360 is still not bad to watch news progs etc, but HD is better for films..

As the poster mentioned Firestick and TV, I produced estimates for HD viewing. Per the link I included, standard def would be about 0.5 GB per hour, and 4K would be about 16 GB per hour.
