Re: Mammaogram/Scan

Thanks Macliam and Boss.

So, yesterday morning, LagoaCentro called and offered me a 3pm appointment, which I gratefully accepted. They were professional and efficient and didn't keep me waiting. I had a 3D mammogram and an echograph/Eco Mamari done. Nothing too worrying/urgent visible but I will be scheduled for an MRI, for better detail. I have to email them on the fist day of my menstrual cycle and they will schedule the appointment. Apparently, they do it between day 5 and 15. Apparently, it helps to better visualise the breast tissue.

Such good news. I know that you are still going to worry until the MRI is completed but at least at this point you are being reassured that there is nothing nasty showing up and making everyone react urgently. So far so good as they say.

Excellent. I like the idea that interpretation of tests is being carried out by someone other than the consulting medic, which should preclude any problems with testing to pove a diagnosis, rather than "open" testing. It sounds as if the testing is being organized for optimum clarity of outcome - good luck.

Re: Mammaogram/Scan

That sounds very positive. I suspect you have been offered an MRI scan because of the high density tissue. This is very common in younger people with higher levels of hormones hence the instruction to do the scan in the early cycle. I really hope you can have the MRI soon but I honestly think anything sinister would have been been detected in the ultrasound.

Thank you all but yes, will need the MRI to happen to give a clearer idea as still very swollen. Will let you know how I get on.

Update: Frustrating trying to get the MRI appointment. I have emailed twice and called twice. The response is "wait for our contact" and "I will talk to my colleague".

Thanks for letting us know. I was going to contact you last night but decided that I might be encroaching too much. You must be tearing your hair out with this delay.

Stay strong.

Thanks Rosemary. Finally got an appointment for the 29th. I'd have liked it sooner but whilst it's uncomfortable, it's not viewed as urgent. I know there are many others worse off with more serious issues but it is frustrating.

I too am awaiting a scan, but for a different reason (to check an initial diagnosis). In my case, nothing happened at first as (it seems) they only run one scheduling meeting a week. Then I was told I would receive a letter with my projected date - nothing arrived. Then I called the department and was passed from pillar to post... until I was told the clinical nurse was on training and it was better to call back. So today, I finally spoke to the clinical nurse, only to be told that a new scanner was being installed and that this had impacted scheduling..... but they were looking to restart as of 13th May. Given that I still have no firm date - and I have a need to be in Portugal on that date - this is far from optimum for me!

I hope all goes well for you.....

Thanks. The problem here is that I dare not miss an eventual appointment..... who knows when (and if) I would get another.

I hope your scan confirms the original diagnosis... being in limbo is no fun.

I know what you mean - I have not dared schedule anything these last few weeks because of worrying about appointments.

Yes, cross fingers.

How frustrating. I know it's not much consolation but if the lump was at all suspicious, they would move very quickly indeed.

If this drags on, can you find slot for the MRI somewhere else?
