Default madeira wine shortage?

I don't drink, but my OH likes a glass sometimes, and also likes it for some cooking.
I used to get madeira wine at Continente and some intermarches; they haven't had any for a while, 6 months or more.

Yesterday I picked up a 500ml bottle totally overpriced, that was the only offer.

Anyone know what the story is?

Can't explain the issue with supermarket availability, but I can suggest this online source, we have ordered a few things there, when they are hard to find or expensive locally:

No idea about prices and quality but I usually bring back wine and port from France and have bought a Madeira wine in October. It was this one for 6,50€ and seemed to be in every store I shopped https://www.carrefour.fr/p/vin-de-ma...-3147690034100

That's it; the French have ripped off the (cheap) vino!

That link won't open for me.

Some sort of security thing, their website is blocking my domain because it "thinks" attacks come from it.
If I really want to get into a site that block me, I use TOR; which is of course, also how an actual attack would be routed.

Some mail systems block my email address because for a while spam engines were spoofing it and they're too dumb to know spammers don't use their own address.

Coincidentally, I've been on the lookout for Madeira these last few weeks with similar lack of choice. Continente had an own brand meio doce which I'm not keen on (bit "thin") but would have done at a pinch cooking-wise. Lidl had a 500ml Blandy's special edition or something at rather more than I'm accustomed to paying for 750 ml.

Until today, when Lidl have some new stock which includes 750ml bottles of Blandy's rich, full-bodied Duke of Clarence. That'll do nicely, esp at €9,99
