lockdown from Thursday 14 January
Saw it mentioned in the Portugal Resident; supposedly the details will be announced tomorrow (Tuesday).
Apparently there was one last weekend too, but I didn't know that at the time.
SMS notifications would be nice; or maybe Afpop could send out notices to us lingually challenged people...

Are cases rising there a lot there then? We're in the second week of full lockdown here with hints that it could get tighter as people are not following the guidlines. I don't think we could get much tighter here. It's a nightmare and very scary.

YES.
We had the biggest peak ever, and then cases were declining since mid December. But since new year there's been another spike, and now hospitalizations are at a new all time high and so is intensive care.
The daily new case numbers make nice headlines, they go up and down a lot and are hard to follow. I think the hospitalization numbers are a more reliable metric.
UK has 30,500 patients in hospital with covid, we have nearly 4,000. Adjusted for the population, the UK is doing worse, but not by much.
Some people still take it seriously, others seem to have become blasé about it. Like if it happens it happens.
Portugal has had around 8,000 deaths so far. That would be equal to 52,000 in the UK, but the UK has has 82,000 deaths to date.
I think if everyone would wear masks, wash their hands, and keep "social distance", these lockdowns would not be necessary.
But humans are humans...

Re: lockdown from Thursday 14 January
Xmas and New Year came at the wrong time. Restrictions shouldn't have been eased(IMO).

The lockdown is in force; I found news about it, some writing of the differences to the last lockdown.
But can anyone post a clear concise list of the current rules?
Meanwhile, the stats page from the PT health ministry is significantly more dire than ever.

Thanks, but what are "authorized journeys?"
I guess I can go shopping [locally] and some other 'authorized' things like before.
Guessing is not really so great.

Go to the Safe Communities Portugal website and sign up for updates by email or on their Facebook page. It's all there like it has been for a year or so. Some things are controversial however such as golf courses and tennis clubs which are open. Lots of comments from followers.

Re: lockdown from Thursday 14 January
I was on their website but didn't find the list above.
Seems to cover most things I ever go out for...
Today's numbers are astounding; almost 11,000 new cases in 1 day, in a country of 10.5 million.
That means 1 out of 1,000 residents of Portugal was infected IN A SINGLE DAY! And those were only the ones detected + registered.
At this rate, most of the country will have been infected before vaccination.
There are nearly 5,000 people in hospital with covid. 1 out of every 2,000 residents.
So; don't forget to clean your hands, folks.
