Lemsip
Anyone know if there is a Portuguese equivalent of Lemsip? Mr B has a snorting cold, yuk!!!
|
Re: Lemsip
My mother used to squeeze half a lemon into hot water with a teaspoon of honey, a tot of whisky and a dispersible aspirin. It tastes at least as vile as a lemsip. ;)
|
Re: Lemsip
No whisky. Lemsip is OKish. When I lived in Spain, they had a product similar.
|
Re: Lemsip
Did you get over your cold and did your eyes improve?
|
Re: Lemsip
Thank you, yes, getting there with the cold. Still coughing but yes, the spots have not appeared in the last day or 2.
|
Re: Lemsip
Bronchostop is what I used when the coughing was really bad. It did help, so if your other half ends up coughing loads, it's worth getting.
|
Re: Lemsip
Italians drink warm milk with Grappa in it. The grappa is enough to kill off any bug or germ. The milk is probably just to wash it down or make it more child-friendly. Italians are hypochondriacs anyway and die if they are not wearing a scarf, walk barefoot or go out in the air so I never really listened to them.

Re: Lemsip
I just move to another bedroom, rather than smothering him - but love your advice Lorna.
Hot toddy, cheapo rubbish whiskey from Aldi, local honey, brown sugar and you forget all about the coughing and sneezing. Or maybe two or three might help. |

Bad advice!!!! I just tried it and it made him cough more. I think I'll just shove in the bedroom and close the door, then turn my radio up very loud.

However, my Pop's cold remedy stands the test of time. A double whiskey, lemon juice and a soup spoon of honey, topped off with boiling water and sipped. If you don't have lemon, honey or hot water.... replace with whiskey! Repeat until cured. |

Re: Lemsip
Probably of no interest but I have the juice from half a lemon and a small teaspoon of honey in warm water every morning when I get up and I can’t remember the last time I had a cold. Shame it doesn’t help my damaged ankle 😢

Is your damaged ankle from the cycling accident you had? |
Re: Lemsip
No, that one has now gone arthritic and might need to be fused. My ‘good’ ankle is playing up
now with tendonitis possibly as a result of a swimming accident many years ago. Playing golf on it three times a week is probably not helping |

I am ill now. I haven't been ill since I 2020 and that was only a sniffle that lasted a day. I might try that though.
Take care!:) (I found some old Vicks, which was enough to give relief....) |

Hi, butting in from the France forum, a cautionary tale: I caught a cold and cough recently, for the first time in years. Since it lasted some time, the nurse who had been coming regularly to change a dressing, decided to do a test on the spot. It turned out to be Covid....

Thanks. I guess the treatment is the same for a cold, flu or Covid.

Incomplete. ;) (PS, poitÃn is the real deal, but a bit harder to get!) |
Re: Lemsip
3 weeks and a day into the flu, I am better of course, but feel terrrible at some point most days. How long will it take to get rid of this? The worst is blocked sinuses, it gives me a headache and makes me feel sick and I can't eat and breathe at the same time when it's bad.

Bowl of hot water with eucalyptus oil in it, towel over head and breath. Old fashioned but extremely effective for sinuses. If you have one of those facial steamers that would be even better.

Thanks, I'm going to give that a try.
Menthol crystals are quick and effective too. |

Another to try (and easy to source) is Rosemary, great for congestion as a herbal steam:

Re: Lemsip
All the pharmacies my husband went to had run out of eucalyptus or menthal produts for steaming. I tried it without anyway and it has worked a bit just with steam. The pressure seems to have reduced slightly in my forhead and nose. I'll try again to get some menthal stuff tomorrow.

Steam works very well for easing the pressure. Make sure you do it before going to bed as that will help you to sleep.
