In any situation where the SEX cannot be attributed then it always defaults to male. (It is a man’s world after all)

Eles refers to the "English" although you are both males and females.

We would never refer to the Canadians as "elas” always "eles".

Smaller words are often only partially said and glued together BUT are still there.

Muinto Obrigado becomes... MuintObrigado... We lose the o at the end of muinto and Glue the Obrigado to the remainder.


Yes we Portuguese think EXTREEMELY LITERALY. And speak that way also. The car example..... Well it was a funny and true story a long long time ago in a place far far away....:rofl:

As you may notice - Friday is Study -Day for me :D

So many books are written in Brazilian Portuguese, it is difficult to get things clear.

Can a kind person confirm Please as used in Portugal is 'Faz favor' and not 'Por Favor' as a lot of my book say.

Thanks to Anna, Yes got to the section which say 'eu' is not used extensively as the verb format indicates that it is 'I'.

Keep replaying the same segment time after time, day after day until you start understanding a few words here and there, then what they are talking about, and finally complete sentences.

Faz favor is deferent from Por favor.

Faz me um favor means do me a favor, while por favor means simply PLEASE.

Nobody says faz favor. It is always Faz me um Favor. But we say “Fasme um favor” Again the glueing of words. Mutch like in english we will say "will you" bla bla as "willyou".

So if for example I was walking by you and it was a tight space I would say "Por Favor" as I gently guided you out of my way. If I said Faz Favor it would be offensive....

Faz is a dictatorial word, meaning a command. Faz ALTO!! Say the GNR, Faz mais fogo... Faz mais trabalho... Those are all commands. Tone down the Faz word with another world like me (to me).

If I needed you to reach me something on a high cabinet I would ask "Faz me um favor"

Listen carefully because they are probably "eating” the E in "me" and making the "um" essentially silent and removing the M from it also. ....

So they may be saying fazmufavor. In other words the m of "me" and the m of "um" are both abbreviated into 1/2 each and the E in "me" is dropped and the u in "um" is so abbreviated it almost is not there but it is.

It is possible there is a dialect of PT I am not familiar with. Although I am Portuguese and grew up in Portugal and speak it every day there are so many dialects that nobody knows them all.

However Faz favor is improper Portuguese in most sentences.

By the way they are definitely NOT leaving out the O at the end of Obrigado... They are "eating it".... In other words abbreviating it to the point of almost not saying it BUT IT IS THERE.

The problem is that you have English ears… Like this.

When I first came to America we had a family friend called Mrs. Beach…. Well for about 10 years I could never say her name because no matter how I tried people always laughed at me because I could not hear the difference between Bitch and Beach.

Yes its Faz favor here as well and also most of out PT friends do not bother with the O as in Obrigad and Moncarapach instead of Moncarapacho, also it was discussed in the forum and in the newspapers a few months ago that the PT government was bringing in Brazilian PT as the national language.
