Go into your nearest Notarys office and ask them.

Hasn't anybody out there done one yet, apparently our UK will is invalid over there- or isn,t that the case?

I believe you must have a separate Will here in Portugal and your UK one will not be valid. Yes I think we paid near that figure for a Will to be drawn up - call a few Solicitors to get quotes.

We got ours done nearly 4 years ago at the Notary in Tavira and it was E190 for the two of us. Your UK will is valid in PT but it is advisable to get a PT one in case there is any problems.

I believe Lita Gale specialises in such matters, Google the name for contact details. Offices in East Algarve & London.

When we made ours it was enough to lodge a statement with the notary saying what you wanted doing and stating that if there was any query you wanted it to be carried out in accordance with your English will.

The reply from Anna58 sounds odd as there is no simple substitute for a Will!
Basically a Will costs quite a bit as the Notary fees are high. Typically a pair of mirror Wills (ie where husband leaves to wife and vice versa) will cost you around €600 including legal help and Notary fees.
Don't just rely on your UK will - it will cause all sort of bureaucratic problems to those you leave behind you!
Ideallly one has a Will in each jurisdiction where one has assets but .....

Mariboodebumbum,
My wife and I did our wills yesterday.
Costs were 600 Euros including IVA.
We used Élia Horta who is just around the corner from the Santander bank.
