has anyone noticed strange portuguese pages popping up on google, firefox etc when you are searching for legitimate web pages? some are just advertising but I have had porn etc appearing and a certain naughty "pop up" - tried various security scans, clearing the cache etc but sure enough they reappear from time to time. Its worrying me as I have grandchildren who use my computer when they are here and I havent experienced these odd pages before the last month or so. Any straightforward ideas on how to extinguish them?

Down load and run Spybot search and destroy, it is free and finds and clears most of these annoying programmes that get on your system, it finds ones that the standard antivirus and firewall programmes miss.

internet explorer, google chrome and firefox all have the facility to block pop ups have you set your browser to block them? The option can be found in the settings menu of your browser.

I have popups blocked and flash disabled. this stops most of it.
There is always a button present for when I do want to let a video play, it says "activate flash".
I'm using the firefox browser.

Try downloading 'adblocker' doing that, and a malwarebytes scan sorted out the problem for me when I was getting just what you are describing.

Hi All
I use Firefox and have done for many years. In that time i have never had a virus, malware or popups but then i don't use windows. I have for the last 10 years plus used Ubuntu Linux and before that Suse Linux. Virus, malware and popup free.

AdBlock has stopped working so you have to uninstall it and download AdBlock Plus for Chrome.
