Default IMI

I'm PT resident and have been for a few years. I usually get my annual IMI bill and pay it in April. I can't remember if I get it by post or it just appears on my financias account. Anyhow, this year nothing received so far by post and nothing showing in my financias account. Is this just me or has anyone else not yet received their IMI bill?

I think last year the payments were delayed with a month each due to covid, and the bill itself was issued in May.
Might be the same this year.

You may have been attributed an exemption automatically.

This will happen if your household income is less than 15,295€ and the VPT of all properties owned is less than 66,500€

It's aggregate family income if there's more than one occupant, as opposed to individual. A working couple earning minimum salaries would be comfortably into paying IMI territory.

Last year 3,893,890 bills were issued. In 2019, 1,170,789 exemptions were automatically attributed to households meeting the low income criteria.

Been here, in Baixo Alentejo, for five years and have never paid. Got three years exception, because it's our main home and then because we have no utilities, we don't need to pay, apparently. We ask every year in Finances, but Vitor keeps telling us nothing to pay.

We have our own water, fossa, own electric and the bins are emptied, down the track, once a week.

We had five years when we first bought in the East Algarve. Then it was around 500€ a year.

What is this ‘portal’. Is this something else that I need to familiarize myself with?

https://www.portaldasfinancas.gov.pt/at/html/index.html

Its the Portuguese equivalent of HMRC
You need to have set it up (ie registered with your NIF number and you get a code in the post, then set your password) then you can access all areas of your Tax situation in Portugal including your IMI and payment of it etc

Suggest do it on laptop using chrome for translations

wellinever: I am just about to go in for the first time, can you recall does it automatically ask you to set a password and is there an area to change personal details, certainly at least my email address is an old one on there.

Interesting with my IMI.
My house was not registered as a house until Jan 2021, PVT given in Feb.
First I have know the IMI amount was this morning when I looked on line.
Whilst I have paid it, I note it says IMI 2020.
Why would I pay for a house that up until Jan 2021 was still registered as a plot of land at at a much lower charge than the house.
ANy one with any suggestions??
