iberian civet

iberian civet
Our dog chased a critter into a tree this evening; looks like a civet.
I assume an Iberian Civet, due to our location.
But I can hardly find a word about the Iberian; lots on Asian, African, Malay civets.
Just one grimy picture of a poorly stuffed one I daren't show the OH.
Does anyone know anything about this animal? What do they eat, where do they nest?
Just curious. We'll probably never see him again anyway.

Is it a genet? They have similarities to civets.

Re: iberian civet
Thanks for the replies everyone;
I only saw the hindquarters and tail, but I saw them clearly and close up. Distinct black / white rings on the tail and white body with black specs is consistent with the Genet.
I saw some pictures of civets with similar patterns, but not Iberian ones; the only Iberian civet image I found was the same one Maclaim posted.
It's good to know there's still some wildlife out there; too bad it eats the other wildlife, but that's nature for you.

Some creature has been getting into our trash; can't be a dog and bigger than a rat. There are no cats in our neighborhood, so we thought it has to be the genet.
I bought a security camera and last night the culprit was caught in the act!
It's just a cat. Funny video though.

Re: iberian civet
Well, I did see the Ganet that started this post. I've also seen sea otters.
There are a lot of boar, I see their diggings on my daily walks.
But sighting wildlife is rare, even in the "nature reserve" Vicentina.
Whatever is still alive has learned to avoid humans.
