I.M.I.
I bought my house in 2006 and had 6 years free - a couple of years ago I had an email saying there was a 2 year extension! Now I am concerned that is it automatic or do you have to fill in any forms? I do not want any nasty shocks next april!!

Do you need to be a resident to get the 6 years free or is it available to any purchase? Txs JJ

I hear that the austerity measures that are part and parcel of the Euro Bail Out will be reducing the IMI free period or removing it altogether along with increasing IMI.
Time will no doubt tell.

Re: I.M.I.
Bit late in the day with this thread.
I receive my IMI bill in two letters, one to my wife and the other to me. Twice a year.
The amounts are equal for example 200 each. Is this the same for everyone else as a Portuguese friend has told me she receives one addressed to her and her husband.
Thanks

What was "duff" about it? The yearly amount due is split equally between the number of property owners so each owner will receive an IMI bill.
