Default How many ex-pats live in Tavira then?

Going by the number of people asking about various developments in Tavira there seem to be a lot of us here. So just who does live in Tavira (permanently I mean).

We looked at Tavira to buy as it was a lovely place to live, however it was just too far from our offices in Quinta. One day we will look again, either there or Alvor. Nothing wrong with where we live (part time) now, just a little too touristy. (Bloody foreigners!)

Not us yet. Need to wait until retirement age (erk, another 15 years) or win the lottery when we will become true expats.

No idea as to the actual number who live there - but the guy in my Bank told me the other week that the branch he used to work which was local had thousands of UK bank account holders. Think it was around 8 or 9,000 and that is just one branch.

Me and 'er in doors .....but you know that !

But the Bank accounts is a red herring - as PT is very soft on opening accounts, so loads of 'cash' is parked here by the not so scrupulous

I think in Santo Estevao there are 8 or ten of us on the voting register. There are a lot more than that here, but for whatever reason people don't like to be legal so don't register. Your parish loses loads of public money if you don't declare yourself, go and register.

Slightly off topic, but if your finances are straightforwardish you might get a nice surprise if you opt to pay tax here!

I'll second that. Why on earth are people who live here permanently so reluctant to avoid it?
