hi all
hope the weathers nice for you not to bad here this week either.
i aiming to move to portugal in september to buy a property, ive researched visited area viewed properties etc i think i am armed with the knowledge needed.
i might have a few question but now i am writing can only think of one i am worried about i am sure more will come but for now.
how do i get a fiscal number i've been told that this is a national insurance type number.
i've been told that this is very important and it involves a resident of portugal signing to Guarantee you will pay your council taxes.
or you need a resident of portugal to Guarantor for you before you can buy a property.
obviously not knowing a resident would seriously restrict me in this area so is a major concern

Re: hi all
Hi Sunnierclimes and welcome to the forum.
Don't panic - you have been a bit misinformed.
You need a Fiscal number to buy anything here in Portugal - car, house etc. but it is easily obtained and only costs around 10 Euros (-ish).
You don't need a 'guarentor' for your property but if you are not living here permenently you will need a 'Fiscal Representative'.
This will be the person who will pay your council tax (and any other dues) if you are absent.
Most solicitors and some estate agents do this for a fee. If you are going to live here then you won't need one.
Have a good browse through this forum. I found it very helpful when we were moving out here. Most people on it are friendly enough
