Hi

I have been given a brand new apartment near Gale/Salgados Golf Course. I need a fiscal number in order for the deeds to be registered but have been quoted ridiculous (I think) prices.

I know I could do it myself but I dont yet have an address in Portugal I can use and live in the UK. Can anybody assist please for a reasonable payment.

I shall also be looking for help in furnishing and renting the apartment so if you would like to help or offer any advice please contact me.

It doesn't matter whether you have been given an apartment or not, people should not be charging extortianate amounts, mine cost me €6.00 at the finacas and €15.00 euro's for my translator's time.
Do you know anybody that is willing to let you use their address, if so, once your card arrives you can then go to the local financas and change the address to that of your apartment? failing that, there are lawyers out there that will do it on your behalf, you will just have to hunt around for one that doesn't charge you the earth.

The above's correct, our's cost €6 at the Financas, done by our lawyer as a part of a house purchase.

Don't know how you plan to register your apartment's deeds, but you should be able to find a lawyer who will do both without costing an extortionate amount.

There will probably be someone on this forum who can recommend a lawyer for the area.

if you have been given the apartment then you have to do a legal transfer of the property to get it into your name, otherwise its not yours!
this must be done at the notary's office. you dont need a lawyer to do this or register the property with the land register people, but you may find it easier and safer to have some proffessional help.

as has been said above, 6 euros for the fiscal number, couple of hundred for the land registry, but....

if someone gifts a property to you then there are quite heavy taxes to pay on the property, it may be better if you buy the property for a small amount, less tax to pay this way.

even when a property is gifted there is a lot of paperwork that needs to be sorted to register it correctly.

a fiscal representitive is responsible for you for taxes etc please contact maybe able to point you in right direction
