GOLDCAR at FARO ?

I was looking for a decent deal on a Clio / Ibiza size car from Faro commencing 29th sept. The best and most plentiful options all seem to come from Goldcar regardless of which booking agency one uses. The thing is- I've always avoided them like the plague. This is because a very long time back they used to hassle you at the airport desk with statements like " their full cover insurance was compulsory" and find extra charges for fuel, or take a full overpriced tank of fuel and return empty (ish). I've used Travelrent dozens of time, but they don't seem to have much availability. I guess they have reduced their fleet due to Covid / low demand.
So the question is : Do Goldcar behave themselves nowadays or are they still up to their old tricks ? I remember using them around 2012 and fortunately I took photos of every panel / tyre on collection, but they still argued there was a scratch on the wheel arch until I showed them the date stamped photo on collection. They reluctantly backed down after a hard challenge hence I subsequently regarded them as being less than entirely honest !!

I would not touch them with a barge pole. According to Trustpilot (check out their reviews) the leopard has not changed his spots. Before we bought our car we used https://www.zestcarrental.com/portug...rport/reviews/ we never had any problems with them.

Goldcar had a very bad reputation in Spain when I lived there, and people buying second hand in Spain were always very wary of buying any car that had previously been a Goldcar hire car.

I saw an article about them in a national newspaper recently - someone person complaining of being ripped off, loads of replies from others saying the same. It seems they haven't changed. No way would I touch them.

We also found a shortage but got one from Zit autos who we’ve used before. Only thing you might feel is a disadvantage is they don’t provide a transponder. So we go to Castro Marim P.O to pay and use the N125 when we return.
