Future Taxation for Foreign Pensioners?
Interesting article in the current Portugal News..

What does this mean for those currently enjoying NHR benefits?

As one would expect, it won't mean any alteration for those already granted the status under the existing law.
All the Portuguese language sources I have seen or heard mention of it in make that clear.

Re: Future Taxation for Foreign Pensioners?
If you look at the thread started on the 16th, called "Tax on Pensions" you can see what has already been posted about this.
It does seem that it will only affect pensioners who aren't yet on the scheme.
I'm not moving over until next year so will probably be paying the low rate of tax instead of zero tax.
I guess I can keep my fingers crossed that if it's not put into the budget until 2018 then maybe it won't come into force until 2019.
But 5-10% tax is still a good deal.

I see that some details of the Portuguese budget are in the papers today but nothing I can find on the NHR tax changes. I will keep an eye out myself but if one of you knows I'd be grateful to hear as we are poised to move out sooner rather than later if the cut off date is indeed January 1st.

Florent Pagny will leave France for Portugal because of tax reasons.
I just read a very exciting article about the question: Is Portugal a tax paradise?
Answer of Pascal Saint-Amans, head of Tax administration of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD): no, not at all.

This is also a signal towards the EU that pression on Portugal has no sense.

It sure isn't a tax paradise for us.
I mean, there are lots of things to recommend Portugal, but the tax rate is not one of them.

Can't happen soon enough as far as I'm concerned.
