P & O and Brittany Ferries run from UK to North Spain and have good informative websites.

P & O do the Portsmouth to Bilbao route all year but do have a break of about 4 weeks after Christmas for annual maintenance we have done this route in May and it was not bad. Takes 36hrs out and 30hrs back.

Brittany do Plymouth to Santander at the moment and will alternate this with Portsmouth to Santander from April this year. Again they break for annual maintenance dont know how long or when. Takes 24hrs each way.

Prices about the same for both and we have booked to return Santander to Portsmouth in June 09 Food on both routes is expensive.

The Spanish motorway system from both ports is very good and free from Santander small charge from Bilbao at the start then free.

I don't go that way it is no good to me heading for Ayamonte on the portuguese border it is better to take the new motorway route down to Sevilla and then across on the A49.
