Electric Meter ??
#1
I have a problem with the EDP due to the size of my Bill
So this morning I turned everything off (but did not unplug anything) & the meter was still turning very slowly & making a low humming sound
I can assure you nothing was on !
Anybody have any ideas please

Did you turn off at the main board so in theory no power is entering your property /

Many devices draw power even when "off". TV's are particularly well known for this, but computers and phone chargers too.
switch off your breakers one by one to narrow it down.
I had this problem once in a very serious way; I used a stopwatch to time how long it took for the wheel to make 10 revolutions, then worked out how much my loss was. some of those devices, especially the older ones, will cost you E10 per year each. that can add up.
You can also get a little plugin power meter to check devices one by one.
Usually, a high power bill is because they didn't read the meter for a year or two, and you've been paying just a little less than you used each month. Now you have to pay the correction all at once.

liveaboard :- It's not a catch bill - My house is old & as & when I get the dosh I will get it rewired but this will mean beating all the old stuff out firstly ,It has no earth except where I have run a couple & only 1 yes one breaker.
I get your point over "off" & will pull all the plugs later today
Thanks

It's very unlikely you have power leaking from old wiring; but if you do figure out that's the case, it's a potentially serious safety issue.
Just about the only way that could happen is if there is water in a junction box somewhere. As you say it's an old house with 1 breaker, I'm assuming there is no GFI [that would trip in the above situation].

They do trip if I have too many on !
The meter's dated 1995 which just before I moved in.
I will get a sparky in I know early next week & get him to check out everything.
