Question Driving time from Spain to Algarve

Would anybody have any idea of the driving time it would take to drive from Santander (Spain) to the Algarve. Due to the hike in fuel charges to fly i am seriously thinking of driving from the uk. I would allow three days for the journey unless anybody knows different. I would be gratefull of your comments.

We drove down from Bilbao last December and it took about 15 hours in all. We crossed into Portugal from the Salamanca area and stopped overnight in Portalegre. The next day we took 3 hours to drive the rest of the way to Tavira. In May we drove back up and it only took 11 - 12 hours. But that was stopping for a break every couple of hours. If you drive non-stop I believe you can do it in less but my wife isn't a happy passenger so...

At this moment driving seems to be the better option flights if booked today would cost around £1000 for four of us at christmas including car rental for 14 days.

We paid £498 Portsmouth/Bibao return in May and you have to buy food on board which is not cheap. Crossing the Bay of Biscay in winter might not be so smooth.

have just checked on condor ferries to st malo for 4 plus car 20/12- 5/1= £568.60.
p & O to bilbao £627
still works out cheaper than flying and hire car for same dates (easyjet and BA)

If you put your start and end points into ViaMichelan it will give you a travel cost and include tolls if you want to do it that way. It was about €200 from Bilbao to Ayamonte in fuel and tolls and we stopped every 2hrs and one overnite so you can add another €100 for food and board. We took 3 days going back and made it part of the holiday our exploration of a small part of Spain so that cost €200 + about €500 but you could do it in one day if you drive hard from 08.30 off the ferry you would be down at the Spanish border by 18.00.

If you travel via Seville then there are little, if any, toll charges
