Default Driving Licence expired

Has anyone else been as stupid as me? I was showing residencia in a bank when I noticed with horror that my licence had expired 20 months ago! Having renewed it at 70 I thought I had 5 more years - wrong, only valid for 2 years. Apparently you can renew up to 2 years without having to take a test - phew - but does anyone know if my insurance will be valid while I wait 2 weeks for a medical attestation and then however long it takes to get the new licence?

No, as you dont hold valid driving license. If in doubt, read terms of your insurance.

Get your medical online ,there's a few companies doing it now, cost about 30e ,doctor uploads to imt

Go to imt ,explain situation, they will issue a gaia for the interim period until your new card arrives

speak to your insurer they may be happy to continue cover once you explain the situation and what you intend to do about it.

Thanks for both replies
EU Flag Yes I thought as much - I had a vague hope that because, unlike the UK, driving licences expire here they might be more forgiving - more stupidity on my part!
I took on board all your suggestions Dingg and went to see our insurers and no, not insured without current driving licence as expected. Did the online medical - very easy and got to IMT today and now have guia so panic over. Will be sure to put expiry date in my reminder program so it never happens again (hopefully!). Thanks
