To the best of my knowledge, the date on the visa when it was stamped in Macau was on or about 28 October.
On a different theme but regarding the same issue, am I right in thinking you can leave the country and return for medical intervention?

I've got nothing, I'm afraid.
I'm surprised if the visa doesn't have a legible start date on it, and I'm puzzled by why the AIMA officer would have said, when asked the direct question, "no you can't travel" if that visa is still valid and she's only had one entry on it. Did they inspect the passport and visa, or enquire as to how many entries your wife had made or when she wants to travel?
I'd be very wary of leaving the country without the awaited card under the circs that you've been told not to, unless you can get some statement from AIMA in writing and without disclaimers that she's OK to leave and re-enter Portugal.

Sorry Eric, I’ve just checked while she’s out at the shop and the dates are 27/10 to 23/02. Double entry. I think the baby is due about then. Hopefully it comes early.
