It will not apply to the vasy majority who were both UK resident.
It is targeted more at those who come from other countries where one has worked in the UK qualifying for a UK pension but whose partner has stayed in their home country.
As explained by a government minister this morning.
Always treat any such comment in the Tory Graph with a level of scepticism.

Personally i think the land grab situation would be of more interest , looks like pt wants to shoot itself in the foot.Ie they are claiming land at govt level if it cannot be proven to have been owned for 150 years , primarilly anything next to water it affects , be that streams , rivers or tidal.

Completely stupid and disgraceful
But not really land grab aka Spain.
The idea is that all land within 50 metres of a river , reservoir or the sea - i've never seen streams or any or water sources mentioned is officially owned by the Portuguese government unless you can show evidence that the land / property has been in private ownership prior to 1860 something - there are other loopholes in the legislation
This has always been the case and if you bought in these circumstances your lawyer should have pointed in out to you - cut to dream sequence.
The object of this apalling and crazy decision is that a further annual rate in addition to your house rates can be levied on the land - not that they actually want the land for any other use.
This is why only thieves, villains and the corrupt become politicians - decent people wouldn't have the stomach for it.
