If you are going out of the country and your substitute licence has not arrived, I believe you can take your chit and request your original licence.

Registered my UK licence here yesterday! Took me a decade to get round to it but it's done now!

Once the dust has settled I will change to a PT licence, for those of you who have already changed, did you loose anything e.g car & trailer, 7.5 ton trucks etc and did you perhaps gain something that you never had.. like a full bike licence for example? Women at IMTT seemed to think I had more than I had like full bike, said I would need special exams every 2 years to keep C1 (7.5 ton) but thought I would be ok to keep car & trailer.

Update on the IMTT problems. They certainly still seem to be as useless as ever in Lisbon.

My wife had a UAE license, when we first came to PT about 18 months ago I registered by UK license, she handed over her UAE one and they issued her with a temp paper (6 months). After 6 months, no license, so she goes back to IMTT and they issue her with the same 6 month paper again.

Still no joy after a year, so she goes again and they say there was some screw up, her photo that was taken was not ok. Meanwhile, we've moved, so she tries to get them to take new address for the license to go to, but they say this is impossible, it will go to old address and needs to be returned before they can update her address.

She went back this morning, and yet again it seems her photo was unacceptable. So still no license. My wife at this point is about to lose her rag. The woman at the desk asks which machine she used, and she points to the one just across with the woman's colleague, "oh yes, that one doesn't work".

FFS, what is wrong with these people? Is there any kind of complaints procedure or anyone in the government who cares about this kind of thing? No wonder they've got problems.

Meanwhile, my brother emigrated to the USA in June. He went to the DMV to ask about licenses and they gave him the theory test there and then, which he passed. Next time he went back, he passed his driving test and already has his North Carolina photocard driving license, and he's only been there less than 2 months. And all for $4, yes four dollars.

What the hell is wrong with the IMTT? My wife doesn't need to pass any test, she just needs a plastic card with a photo on it. Can they really, really, after 18 months, not manage that?
