Western Australia Police - International Recruitment Campaign
From their website today :
Western Australia Police (WAPOL) will be undertaking a recruitment drive in the United Kingdom and Eire mid – late October 2005. This will incorporate an information session and a written examination. (Applicants from outside the UK are also encouraged to apply) Details of the venue in London and Dublin with the relevant dates will be provided at a later time. (Please view our Entrance Evaluation page for more information on the recruitment processes).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Soooooo, will they want a dog handler (GP + Firearms Support) with 18 years service?
Just have to give it my very best shot and hope that they like me!

Hi All
So the time has come at last. After checking the WAPOL website religiously for the past 7 months we find ourselves also filling out the application forms (I say we its Hubby with long service like you handler) that is filling the application forms. We are similarly concerned whether WAPOL will want someone with 17 years loyal service. My reckoning is you've got to be in it to win it!
Anyway the reason for this post is to ask if you guys are completing the application form by computer as with the CV or are you handwriting the application form as section 13 suggests then scanning it into the computer and then E-Mailing it ?

Haven,t had much time this week to look properky at application etc, but I would think completing the app and CV by computer.(haven't got a scanner).
I have 11 yrs in so lets hope they go on specialist officer, instead of those with less service.
Keep us updated with how your getting on, and fingers crossed.

Hi Guys, her's your answer - hopefully - direct from WAPOL :
To all concerned parties
I have received many emails in relation to the application form on the website and I wish to apologise. The incorrect form was uploaded on Friday 9.7.05 and this was corrected on Tuesday 12.7.05.
The incorrect form asked for parts to be handwritten and also asked for supplementary information to be provided (i.e. photos, certificates, references etc) This supplementary information is NOT required at the first stage.Only the CV and completed application form are needed and are to be emailed before the 4th of September 2005. The form itself was also hard to complete in several areas. When it comes to the education levels please put in the highest level you have received in your country.
The CV is only to cover your police experience and prior career information is not required.
You may relog onto the website and download the new application form which will make it a bit easier for you to complete. If you have previously been onto the "International Applicants" part of the website - when you come to the fill in a form please do not put in your personal details again as these have already been recorded. Put your Surname and other details in as "aaa" and email address as aaa @ aaa.com
Several questions have been asked in relation to the 3-5 year target group we are looking at. If you are outside this target group it does not exclude you from applying but may affect your competitiveness. We cannot categorically state for or against your application at this stage until after the closing date and we get to review those who has applied and how many applications are received, it is a personal decision you would need to make if you still want to apply.
Once again I apologise for any inconvenience you may have encountered
Thank you
Jeff
WA Police Academy
Good luck with it, the form still seems a bit of a mess, or is it just me?
Pat

Thanks Handler, recieved same E-Mail from Jeff. So far everything seems straight forward (now we have been updated by the E-Mail). Have downloaded the new application form and Hubby is in the process of taking his time to fill it in along with the CV. I guess we will know the outcome soon after September 4th. Until then we have the summer hols to look forward to with the kids off!

Is it just me or does anyone else find that when you type in Arial 12 as requested on the application forms that they all lose their shape and pages get split. Some bits seem to fall off the end of the page too.
Any ideas, somebody!

Re: Western Australia Police - International Recruitment Campaign
All applying officers please note:
I have a colleague working in SAPOL. He has met with the immigration officer at a recent Q&A session re: this post, on my behalf.
He has warned me that the posts UK officers are being selected for are for outposts. The one's no local will do. Hence the overseas recruiting drive.
Initially I liked the idea. Until he pointed out that it was so remote that you're looking at a 3 hour drive to the 'local' shops!!! This was one of the many drawbacks apparently.
Unfortunately no one will be told this until the point of arrival. Apparently even the immigration officer thought the whole thing a tad below the belt!
You have been warned.
