What's the cost of living like please?

Baz Nov 24th 2016 8:34 pm

Re: Royal Cayman Islands Police Recruiting

I haven't lived there for a while but its expensive, i wouldn't like to do it on one salary if you are a family, but if you both work then it would be ok, or obviously if you are single then it won't be an issue.

Has anyone else applied for the Caymans? I've just had an email out the blue about an interview.

I've got an interview mate. Need to set up a Skype account first. Didn't really expect to get one to be honest. Still not sure if I'd take the job so will need to do some research.

Had two interviews over the years but never got accepted. Pathetic questions trying to find flaws in your integrity. Been a cop for 21 years but counts for naught with that lot

What sort of questions were they asking and how long ago was your interview?

Are there any serving uk police officers in the caymans that can give an insight into the role?

" your on patrol when you stop a friend who has no tax on his car"

" you attend a burglary at a house in st George what would you consider doing "

I mean please what is the point of these questions

Best of luck with your interview

There have been several threads over the years from guys who have served there - run back through the forum and you should find some :)

For example - http://britishexpats.com/forum/polic...ancies-732581/

I think I was the first W/Police Constable to be recruited in Cayman from the UK in the RCIP back in 1980. It was the best time of my life! Biggest mistake I made was returning to the UK. You will love it. However, it is expensive to live there. You do need two wages unless you are single.

Hi Guys,

What length/level of service do you need within a UK Force?

I am only a special at the moment but would love to consider this whilst I'm young in a few years time. I assume they won't take special experience into consideration for obvious reasons but was wondering how many years they are looking for?

Shame I couldn't go start over there as a 'local' as I guess with british passport you have infinite right to work there but they need you to have been a permanent resident for years!

Thanks,
Mark.

I'm so annoyed I only noticed this post a couple days ago and the link was already taken down!

I emailed them directly but was told I was too late and they could only hold my application(including references from current superiors) on file, I obviously decided against doing that as I don't want my superiors knowing too much about my intentions!

Anyone any idea how often they advertise these positions?

Regards,
Irish Copper

I think the last time was about 12 to 18 months ago.

I had my interview this week.
It was structured very similar to uk interviews.
2'weeks for result

Re: Royal Cayman Islands Police Recruiting

What roles have people been interviewed for? Specialist posts or normal policing?

Sminty961 Jan 26th 2017 5:11 am

Re: Royal Cayman Islands Police Recruiting

The current round is just for team. However, I have been informed that their may be a New recruitment drive for DCs

Golftango146 Jan 26th 2017 7:13 am

Re: Royal Cayman Islands Police Recruiting

Did you apply for a team role Sminty? What type of questions did they put out and do you know did the interviews? Always worth checking out their LinkedIn if they have one lol

Are you guys leaving your UK force or have you managed to get a career break?

I didn't apply Jim 👍🏻

Re: Royal Cayman Islands Police Recruiting

I did apply for team.
The interview was very similar to our ones. All competency based. For obvious reasons I won't be giving specific questions.

Re: Royal Cayman Islands Police Recruiting

The appointment is for 3 years ( renewable dependant on performance)'
I don't think you would get a career break for that long

jim2001 Jan 26th 2017 12:56 pm

Re: Royal Cayman Islands Police Recruiting

I would try mate, I know for me leaving here for a 3 year contract which may not be renewed would be too risky.

I would state that by not allowing you too work on a career break it is interfering with your human rights

Article 8 Respect for your private and family life

Protocol 1, Article 2 Right to education ( using your experience on Cayman working with a small diverse population and can bring those skills back bla bla bla)

Most human resources get scared when people mention breaching human rights.lol.

Re: Royal Cayman Islands Police Recruiting

So. On Monday I was offered a post however, I have turned it down. They offered me a starting point wage despite me having 20years service. Once you deduct your rent bills and General living costs, it doesn't leave you with much.
Has anyone else been offered ?

Hey all. I too was offered a job but again at the entry salary for a new recruit. I was very disappointed as I really would have liked to have gone.

I don't think they will get anyone at this entry pay level. Very disappointing.

Is the pay grade for a new recruit 39? Their website is so out of date

Well I have taken the plunge and accepted the post as I've hopefully managed to secure a career break. Has anyone else accepted? Is there anyone that can give me any tips on accommodation, ideally looking for a house share. Any recommendations or guidance would be gratefully received.

Hey. Have you accepted? Just sorted my medical etc

Doddy0078 Mar 6th 2017 6:36 pm

Re: Royal Cayman Islands Police Recruiting

Yes, accepted. Medical sorted a while ago. Sent off uniform sizes. Just waiting on a date for flying out so I can sort house etc. I know they've said a start date if 1st May, but is that start work date and we fly a week prior or is that fly out date?
