Just out of interest, has anyone else made plans to travel to Perth for testing?

Did it take 3 weeks for you to get a reply that they recieved your app or three weeks to say that your app was successful, as i was going to send WA an e-mail tonight to see how long applications take to be completed but just a bit more diplomatic
Cheers

Re: Got the job!!!

When I sent my application a couple of months ago the quickest way, by far, was using DHL's Express service. It arrived within 3 days and I was able to track it online. It wasn't cheap though. It cost me £48 and that was at a discount. It should have been £59 apparently.

www.au.policeprep.com My friend passed all the exams from using it when she was over there in February. I posted my app with royal mail for £10 and it arrived within a week. There receiving quite a few now so taking a bit longer to get acknowledgment. Hope that helps x

Well done to you all. I saw mention of being on a first class constable salary after the academy. Are you all aware that to achieve this you will have to do your first class con's exam whilst still at the academy along with all the other exams/ tests you'll have to be completing.

Also, are you all aware how stats crazy Wapol are. If your a traffic nut you'll love it. If you thought the Uk police were hot on stats then your in for a shock.

I also saw mention of salary. $70k is about right but youll only have a better quality of life if you really have a lot of equity in your Uk home or substantial savings or your wife/ partner gets an equally paid job. $70k is hard for a family of five with one wage. The price of living is about 4 times of that in the Uk. Then take into account other outgoings like health care, school fees, aircon, water retic and possible car loan as cars really do bold their price in wa so a bomb will cost you around 5k and because you don't need an MOT you could be in for trouble.

I also read a post on country postings and yes you could be forced to go or loose your job. You won't be forced to go but your options will be limited as I had seen this happen on numerous occasions where management initiated transfers came into a specialist department and would kill moral and scare monger everyone.

Hi,

My husband is a serving officer with West Mids and has coming up to 10 years' service. Just wanted to ask you guys a question.....has anybody or does anybody know of, a succesful applicant with over the 7 year barrier? He is only 32 and we would love to make the move! Would appreciate any help & info, thanks.

Hi and welcome.
I'm sorry to say that it appears that WAPol are being very strict on their current recruitment criteria. If you look back through the posts there are many who have been over the 7 years by a matter of weeks who have been refused.
I'm not sure what the answer is to your dilemma.
I do wonder if, once WAPol have exhausted the UK's pool of 3-7 year cops they may well broaden the criteria to keep up the recruitment.
All the best.

I'm hoping so. he has been in touch with a few of his friends and ex-colleagues out there who have already made the move and are settled. Their advice is to hold tight as hopefully it will be opened up and the goal posts moved hopefully. Just such a shame for the officers that want this so bad and are fit, healthy and willing to give it their everythign for a better future :fingerscrossed:

Perth is undoubtedly an expensive place to live and anyone thinking of coming over, who didn't already know that, has really not done anywhere near enough research,
However, it is nowhere near being 4 x the cost of living, compared to the UK.
