Hey guys,
Just wanted to share some good news. I received my conditional offer of appointment from WA Police this morning
I am hoping to get onto the September course pending my visa application going smoothly.
One concern I have is the salary. I have been told that after my 13 week course I will be going in on 5th year constable salary of 70k Aussie dollars. Is this a reasonable salary for a young single fella like me?
I will be likely finding a house or flat share until I figure out the area I want to settle and am really into my fitness and outdoor pursuits so going out on the lash all the time wont be sapping my money.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated as I don't want to be setting myself up for a fail. I know things cost a lot more in Perth just need some reassurance that I wont be struggling for money every month.
Thanks
Dan

Dan,
I too received a conditional offer of appointment yesterday and I confirmed it today.
Hope to be on the September training course pending visa applications going smoothly, will be going my wife and 3 young children.
As far as I know, following training I should be on first class constable salary as they take service into account up until end of June 2013, we have done a lot of budgetting from info we have found online and hope to be ok on my salary until my wife gets a part time job.
Would be good to get a few contacts who are going to be over there in the same boat!
Cheers
Mike

Mike,
Congratulations to you! Excitement and anxiety are the two biggest emotions at the moment as I can imagine you have too.
I think we will get networking quickly once we settle into our courses. I already have a few people I have been emailing out there and a few more people I am trying to get hold of in the job already.
If you PM me your email I will be in contact with anything useful I find.
Have you thought about what area you are looking to settle and whether that will be renting or buying etc?

Well done everyone who got through, and commiserations to those who didn't.
Very envious of you all. Hope it turns out to be all you hope for and everything goes smoothly for you.
Good luck!!!

Please keep us all up to date with the move, pitfalls and all.
I particularly will be interested in how you get on; finding accomodation, training, posting etc.
My wife's an Ozzie and I am in the middle of sorting my visa application. As soon as it's granted I'll be looking to apply to WAPol too (hopefully late summer if the process goes smoothly).
All the best. P.

Pincher,
Have you checked back on the Stepforward site since the London recruitment campaign?
They are still looking for applicants and from speaking with recruitment the government are looking to expand by several hundred officers over the next 5 years.
If you get a hard copy application sent over by July then you could be invited to Joondalup to complete the assessment days. The only drawback to this is that you have to make the trip to do this.
Hope this is helpful.

Hi Dan.
Yes, I am aware. However I have 20 years in at end of March so am definitely not eligible for the current campaign!
I'll have to be patient and apply under the Lateral entry route rather than International and hope that they don't think I'm too long in the tooth!

I'm applying in the Next few days, I would love to know how you found testing and what things could be prepared for early-ish.
I think I speak for several people when I say it would be really helpful And interesting to see how people have found the training and their experiences.
Many thanks,
Nige
