Like the new pic you miserable bstard. How did you enjoy your return? Not much i guess.... "consider it curbed". Same for me mate.

Err, sorry, I'd forgotten that. The point is that as far as the EPS are concerned, you don't need to be a police officer. However, as m'learned friend has pointed out, you need the experience to get the PNP nomination and thus the visa.

I am new to this site and apologise if these questions have already been answered. I have only started to consider moving away from NI, I am 21 and have 2 years service in the psni, having read some information I believe I need to have 3 years - is this before I apply? I have heard it can take 1 year to transfer and by this time I will have my 3 years service.

also if I get in does that mean my partner can come as well, by then we will be married?

Is there anyone who has transferred or about to transfer from the psni and how have you found it compared to our testing/ training?

I would be greatful for any information!

ok then well i have been in education for the last 3 years but have had a part-time job for most of that time about 2 1/2 years, does this count towards work experience or does it have to be full-time work? have looked @ join eps and has answered alot of questions, thanks, but can anyone give some info on there personal views like hows the work life, personal benefits of moving to edmonton, good reasons to join or bad etc, as this gives me of an idea of things. like the website is good and covers alot of ground but it would be nice get some other peoples views. also how hard would the fitness aspects be? im reasonably fit and would like to have an idea of what type of training i should do to pass the pare test, by the sound of things on here there seems to be a real emphasis on this aspect.

any other info or advice is welcome.

thanks

dan

Best way Dan would be to visit the city, view a few areas and houses and arrange a ride along with a serving member of the EPS.
That way, you can get 'hands on' with many aspects of life within EDMONTON. A really enjoyed it there during my stay, but did not get to see many parts of the city as I was not driving.

Best wishes with your endeavours though.

wow, thanks for that contribution, i take it you are a long serving former police officer with international policing experience, as well experience in recruiting and police training that would put you in a position to comment. then again you could just be a knob, who knows?

Is recruitment open all year round or is it only at selected times?

year round at the moment but subject to change, depending on budget and success at recruitment. i should imagine that the current drive will continue for at least another 3yrs.

if you are serious about a career in policing, then contact your local recruiting office, fill in the paperwork and it can be arranged. if you are after a quick jolly looking at the flashing blue lights hoping to star in 'COPS', then don't bother.

why is this bit of the site attracting trolls at the moment, or is it just me.

I already have a career in policing, and look at blue flashing lights almost daily. I was just surprised at the thought of a "ride along" as I know most places wouldnt do this.

Like I said, for Alberta, experience needs to be 3 years out of the last 5, in a policing role.

Yes Rae, after best part of two years of serious consideration, research, reading , visiting (you getting me pissed) etc, we have decided against it. Not one reason in particular. It was a tough decision. Its hard to detatch yourself from the exitement and anticipation of doing it, but when we analysed our life here, (fors and against and all that), we realised our life here is quite good in fact, despite the shite state of the UK in general. Its only when we began to imagine living there we got windy. The usuall stuff, friends, familiarisation, having to go back to being a sprog for 5 years when we have both worked our way into specialist units and love what we are doing here. Popping into Manchester and meeting up with mates for an all dayer. She wouldnt be joining there...what would she do etc, not having half a dozen baby sitters on our doorstep when we get pissed off and want to go to the pub. All small things really but they all add up.
Call me soft, say i should have tried it. Im sure people will, but it could have been a very expensive experiment when, if we are honest, we like the life we have - so what was i looking for, something better? big ask. Like you said, if your not 100 % commited at the sart, its doomed.

Thanks for all your help though mate. Miserable sod.
