Not really. If one chooses to live abroad for so long what is the motivation to register to vote.
It seems like a desperate attempt of the Tories to broaden their loyalty base as they may assume that the majority of expats would vote for their candidates.

Coincidence I just actually registered yesterday evenng . We expats were excluded from voting for years and years and a kind lady in my electoral town gave me details ....and so I registered. Needed one ID , used my UK driving licence ( they accept even if expired ) . Easy and seamless registration process. Being on the electroral role also helps ones credit rating in UK. I havent lived there for 40 years but in the event I ever return helps to be able to get credit I guess. And given the absolute shithouse of a performance by the Tories, they would certainly not get my vote !

That's got me interested..I have some motivation and we can't vote here. Despite many of us called immigrants by the BI.

As long as you didn't need to call anyone? My hometown's website says National Insurance Number and date of birth or alternatively email or call the electoral office,

Hi Raffin. No calls required, its all done through a government website shown below. . I had my Nat insurance number to hand and uploaded a UK driving licence showing a UK address. No emails or calls required , at least for myself.

www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

Registered today; used my UK passport.
Long winded, but painless.

Did mine yesterday. All good, surprisingly quick and simple passport and NI number was all that was requested.

I went trough the registration but won't take it further to vote. Choice is by proxy, not on for me, or by post. No postal service and anyway it says sent out 2 weeks before the election! Can't find the deadlines for receipt but I am assuming it wouldn't make it here in time to return, even by courier, to count.

Just got a notification that I have successfully registered, won't make much difference because my hometown always votes the same way "because family innit". But I paid enough tax so I have the right.
I'm sure the rules will change so anyone getting off a dinghy will be able to vote soon.
