Internet Problems

Greetings!

Yes I know, I think many of us are slightly disappointed with the internet here and its something to live with for the time being.

However. Like most of you I use on-line banking and although I can log into my UK and BPI banks, I cannot log into my MBNA credit card site. I have tried for several days but to no avail. If I use the short cut on my laptop it does not work. If I google MBNA, I can get the web page but the log in button does not work. I cannot therefore attempt to log in. I have tried various MBNA links with the same result. I used one link which appeared to be Canadian and although I can enter my log in details, they are not recognized. Perhaps because its for Canadian members. I seem to remember I had similar problems last year and it was resolved after a few days by itself. Now, can this be internet problems or web page problems? Perhaps it takes too long to load up.

Now, I was a bit disconcerted by someone who reckons I may be blocked to enter the web site, but then I would ask...by whom? Maybe there is a hacker at work. I have sent them an e.mail outlining the problem last Friday and if I don't get a reply, I shall ring them. I was informed by FB a few days ago that someone tried to hack my account in the Phils and I had to change my password. Maybe that's a coincidence. Sometimes when I try log into MBNA I get "this page cannot be displayed".

Another strange thing. My router/SSID has a name to which my lap top automatically connects to. I have noted in the past that when I have poor internet, the name changes in that instead of... XXXXXXXXX it appears as XXXXXXXXX 2. The number 2 has been added. No idea why.

I currently pay Gormless Load Of Bloody Extortionists 999 peso pm and for that I am provided with up to 2 MBPS. I haven't seen much above 0.5 recently.....that is if I can load the Internet Speed Checker! I have a router and an external mast. I have had a lot of bother with Globe recently in that their 211 help line is unusable, and they do not reply to my e.mails. They also upped my monthly payments by a 100 peso without any warning or reason. This prompted me to contact 8888 and about the two problems about a week ago and I am promised an engineer will be around (again) within the next 48 hrs. An amended statement will be issued in March.

I should add that if use my mobile phone to try and log into the site, the problem is the same.

I have also wondered if Globe are playing silly buggers with my router remotely if that is possible. I do know that when engineers come round to check and test the system, the internet by magic is bright as a button.

Anyway, next time I will check if my router/SSID name changes whilst they are here.

Its much more fun in.....etc etc!

Regards

Re: Internet Problems

When using overseas sites best to use a VPN ( HOXX, Windscribe or other ). Banks especially have a blocking system on IP addresses known for spam/viruses and Ph is a world leader in that. RBS online banking blocks a lot from here, so I just go through HOXX and I get straight in, just to test this I tried re-logging in after turning off my VPN, blocked.

I find that at those times when general connectivity is slow or even non existent on my Globe 2MB service switching to my UK VPN can often dramatically improve it.

Greetings!

Thanks Stokkevn. Yup, it works. I got a free trial download called Hide.me which took several attempts to download (poor internet :-o) and I got onto my MBNA web-site. Money is still there...or debt I should say. Took a while to connect etc but got there in the end.

I shall await a response to my e.mail to MBNA and see what they have to say about it.

Regards

Re: Internet Problems

Strange, I've never had a problem logging into my UK MBNA account either directly from the website or via link in the monthly email i get. Admittedly i've not tried for a month or so , so I'll try again tomorrow and see what happens. Never had to use HOXX to get in , well not so far anyway!

Re: Internet Problems

I have a mbna credit card and received a notification via email informing me that they had changed their web address. This was 10 days ago.
I have logged into my account yesterday and had no problems.

Re: Internet Problems

Greetings,

The shortcut for MBNA does not work because as stated, their web address has changed. I was not notified of this change. I can only log into MBNA using a VPN. Still awaiting response from MBNA.

Regards all

Re: Internet Problems

Response from MBNA this morning was that they have not had any reported issues with their site and it has not been down for maintenance. So it appears to be an internet issue then and as mentioned previously, VPN can sometimes provide a better connection. Internet was good this morning but now running at 0.3 MBPS. Globe has not sent an engineer within the 48 hrs as promised which with their previous lies and deceit....I am not surprised. Another call to 8888 will be forthcoming.

Re: Internet Problems

Your not on your own...........our internet connection is very unreliable (USATV- Horton).it drops out for no reason, which is very annoying especially if we ate watching Netflix. Many of our neighbours use the same provider and have the same problem.
When we register a complaint they NEVER attend to fix the problem on the day promised, it’s always a lottery as to when they turn up.

Our neighbor did suggest a novel idea..........his suggestion was to tell the security not to allow the USATV representative delivering the bills entry!!!!!!

Thanks for the idea. I get my bill via email and if I forget to pay it they phone me up and ask why. I will tell them that my broadband supplier is unable to provide enough bandwidth to enable me to open email attachments so I have not seen a bill and then ask them to get someone to deliver it by hand, they hate that.

Shall report back on outcome.

Greetings!

Internet still poor after engineers visit and up-rated router. Problem still being investigated and Globe obliged to reply shortly.

Question...if there is an expert out there. I have down-loaded a programme which tells me how many appliances are using my Wi-Fi. It also names what they are. It has detected two routers both with different MAC and IP addresses. Any idea why?

Thanks

Hi to all aah internet problems,we ate with PLDT dsl up to 3 mbs
I must say it is pretty reliable ! And often goes over 3mbs !
I use a program call FING to check who is using our internet.
Usually there is 4 users myself, the sister, and out 2 lodgers.
We have a PLDT Engineer who lives up the road, and this is what he told us to do to keep the speed constant.
1. Always leave the router on !
2. Reset it at least once every day.
3, do a speedtest using the program speedtest which will give you
A listing of your test results.
4. Do a ping test to pldt.com and make a note of the ip address that replies
If you ping this ip it wakes up the PLDT system.
5. Always use the password that comes with the router !
Not sure if any of these will work for globe etc
.

Guy turned up with the bill Wednesday and asked me to sign for it, I invited him into the garden, signed for the bill and then I informed him that the internet was too slow to open my online bank so he was going to have to take the payment back to his office, this was met with lots of excuses why he could not do it until he realised that if he was going escape he would have to get past the dogs to get to the gate. So out with a pre-prepared sheets of paper where, signatures, name in capitals, check box for identification types produced, mother's maiden name and signing in three places for the receipt of the money and then repeated all over again for his copy. So eventually he left with his paper copy, P799, mostly in coins and promising to investigate the the slow speed problem.

Yesterday afternoon speed back to what it should be, as it still is this morning. He obviously did not want to come back next month.
