Finding work - how easy is it?
Hi,
Can anyone share their thoughts/experience on how easy it is for an English only speaking, British foreigner to find work in the Philippines (I would learn the local language once committed)?
Can you recommend where's best to search for employment opportunities, i.e. job sites, employment agencies, etc.?
What is the employment culture like and how does that differ to the UK?
Thanks in advance!

You need to know what work you want and if they will issue a residents visa as Tourist are not allowed to work. Pay is low as they will pay at local rate. Most working foreigners run their own business or are employed on an expat contract, eg international banks and insurance companies. There is no need to learn the language unless you are considering becoming a citizen as opposed to being a resident. That does not mean you should not as it would be of help. Bear in mind that depending upon which part of these islands you are looking to settle as they have their own dialects.
You can get call center work on an overseas contract that means you do not pay tax in the Philippines or at home as you are not a resident for tax purposes. Unless you are taxed on global income and gains such as US residents living and working here.
I think you need to do more online research re status as a foreigner living and working here One such source is:
livingincebuforums They have a wonderful archive of materials that will help you.
Majority of foreigners here are retired. there is no 'safety net' so you will need to have the funds not just to survive but be able to get home as there will be no financial support

Haha, funny. The topic start has placed the exact same question also in the Malaysian section of the forum.
