What was the mother doing all that time? She didn't try very hard to get help. And what about friends and neighbours? If you look up that place in Leyte you will see it is not at all remote .A 2nd class municipality, the biggest in SW Leyte.

I am thinking that this sort of long term neglect will happen to some with long covid symptoms here.

They have their own way of doing things here. My wife's auntie's grandson 35 yo had severe mental problems and was frightened of strangers ( anyone apart from his grandmother ) and used to wander about the jungle wearing only a tee shirt and was quite happy showing everyone what his shorts would have covered. During Yolanda his relatives had no idea what to do with him, if they brought him down to the village he would have just run away and maybe hit by flying debris so they grabbed him in the jungle and tied him to the biggest tree they could find, 8 hours later after the storm had passed through they went back up and cut him free, the tree they had tied him to was about the only tree left standing.
