Not so much a suggestion to this appeal but more a comment. If one looked through Filipino OFW forums in, say, London, do you think we would see a request like this? Maybe not for car repairs, but, for example, an appeal for a dentist? I don't think we would, for a number of reasons, not just the size of the urban areas.

There have been some problems with car repairs? Well, blow me, that is news! I think this poster probably either did not have a car in the UK or was very fortunate where he lived to never experience similar problems. Where I used to reside many of the useful smaller garages were closing down - especially difficult if one was running an older vehicle, as I was.

On the whole I find getting car repairs done here is easier as there is an abundance of small car shops in many areas. There are some special factors like communication sometimes, the high cost of some spare parts...but when one is dealing with repairs to cars, computers, even the human body etc those offering the service have more information, or claim to have more information - and one can be done down as a result of that imbalance wherever one is. Just that in the UK getting redress is easier.

Trial and error, luck ...plus put in your vehicle for routine change oil/tune up and check on the result. One shop I tried didn't clean the air filter - I didn't go back there for anything else. Try to find a shop that will phone around for quality and prices of spare parts. Use local shops wherever possible, hint about future jobs they could do.

If its a diagnostics issue, let me know the details and I might be able to give advice from here.

I'm not from London and I'm asking on here because I'm new to this area. I have had the car fixed/played with twice I just wondered if anyone knew of a mechanic which might fix the issue rather than making a new one. it's not a diagnostic issue but thanks anyway

It doesn't matter where you are from in the UK - the point is simply that you reside somewhere in the large conurbation of Metro Manila. Similar to a Filipino in London asking for someone to recommend a dentist on a forum like this one.

If you live in a subdivision you could put your appeal on a noticeboard, traditional or electronic. Even that is problematic. Otherwise look at my advice again.and, if you can be bothered, any other advice you get here.

It would have improved things a bit if you had put Makati or Taguig etc but even if you did isn't it obvious to you that you shouldn't expect anyone here to recommend someone?

If somebody here recommends you go to Enrico Gonzalez's car shop somewhere in the back streets of Manila, are you going to go there? Or gives you the cell number of a mechanic who will come to your place, are you OK with that?

Yes if someone recommended one I would meet them on a dark alley while carrying lots of cash and gold as I'm very trusting. If I asked could anyone recommend somewhere to get ice cream you would say why not have frozen yoghurt instead?
I ask a simple question but get someone with too much time on their hands trying to waste mine. Have a nice day

Who's the one wasting people's time here? You've started a few threads here lately and then often ignored what people say. Then your further contributions are not at all helpful eg on the Forex.

There's a big difference between ice cream, frozen yoghurt and getting a car fixed. Your problem is that you still don't get what that is.

Do you know who anyone really is on this forum? Are you going to ask for NBI clearance before any recommended mechanic gets on the job?

You still don't say which part of Manila you live in. That would be useful because people could then recommend specific locations where there are clusters of car repair shops rather than take the risk of suggesting individual businesses. I have one such location in mind near an exclusive subdivision where the shops are mindful of their reputation.

But it seems to me you just want some guy to come to your place and fix your car on the cheap.

Oh that's so funny! You are really bringing to my mind a picture of a playful Cocker Spaniel!

As much as it didn't matter for the purposes of this discussion whether you come from London, it doesn't now also matter whether you actually own the vehicle in question as it appears to be a family/household car you're talking about.

Anyway, just wait for that, as yet unknown, mechanic to fix the vehicle and hope that it won't be third time unlucky for you both.

However...I can give you one last idea to consider. Once we were able to contact two mechanics at a dealership and arrange for them to come to moonlight at our place to do a repair. The advantage to us then was that the vehicle wouldn't start. But also you avoid the expense of putting your car into a main dealership and you are getting people who specialise in repairing your model of vehicle. You also know where they can be found if they do a bad job. You have to feed them, though.

So...,not a playful Spaniel's typo! A new word for me as well, but we do always need reminding we're using electronic means of communication here. Must try to use it in any future E-plies!

I see that Senor Spaniel has also been lurking on the Spanish forum. Indeed a playful puppy!
