Re: We're now in Auckland
Alas, this job was not to be!
It's frustrating to be told that there's nothing more the wife could have done, that she had all the right answers and all the right experience, but yet was still unsuccessful.
Oh well... time to move on to the next stage of the plan... need to organise a hire car and get mobile today/tomorrow then look to pick up a motorhome shortly afterwards... lots of other job applications submitted and others to get on with too!
Thanks for all the support!
We'll keep you updated on our progress.

Did you tell immigration that you were in the country to attend job interviews?

All he asked, was whether we had tickets for a return flight and then wished us good luck.

Exciting you guys being over there - looking forward to hearing more about your story.
BTW, has your wife signed on with any agencies? We just have and they seem very proactive.

Hopefully next time your wife will be successful. It's often about your face fitting - and who can tell what you have to do to make that happen

The wife is however going to be registering with Select Education - for some reason she wanted to wait until were were in NZ before doing so.

She's been registerd with Oasis for some time now and they've been disappointing to say the very least - we don't really hold out any hope of them being much more than useless.

Re: We're now in Auckland
In terms of Oasis, everything started off ok, but they seem really very limited in their exposure... if you're looking for anything outside of Auckland, our experience is that there's no point speaking to Oasis.
Also, it's been frustrating dealing with them, because despite the wife taking the time to prepare full details of her career and all related experience and send everything across we've repeatedly had to tell them the same things over and over and had a number of positions put forward for her which are entirely unsuitable... and I don't mean stuff that could be eaily mistaken, I mean that simply by looking at the wife's CV (let alone anything else) it was blatantly obvious that she just wasn't suitable for the role (or vice versa).
It's almost like there's a complete breakdown of communication at their office and that they can't be bothered reading the CV's of the people they're trying to place, but instead just throw any old vacancy randomly to any client in the hope that something sticks....
It's a real shame because we spoke to one guy from Oasis (I believe he was one of the owners) at one of the Expos and we came away really inspired and confident in their ability to find her a position (if that is, she couldn't find one herself).
Then again, we were really confident about PSS' ability to handle the packing/storage/shipping of our stuff, only to find on "move" day that the esimator had underestimated enormously the quantity of stuff in our house and be hit with a bill for almost £1700 extra on top of the original quote in order to move from a 20ft container to a 40ft container.
Again this is a real shame, because the people in the office and the guys who came to pack the house up have been fantastic to deal with, but the original estimator had (imho) absolutely no idea what he was doing and basically stuck his finger in the air to come up with a figure... god help us if we hadn't have dumped a load of stuff at car boot sales in the weeks leading up to the move!
We're quickly learning that the original confidence gained in initial conversations is far from set in stone and subject to plenty of "interpretation" :-)

Mmm, yes, nothing is as it seems!
Will let you know how Education Personnel pan out - although we are looking around Auckland they have mentioned their rels with heads in Christchurch etc. Unfortunately for us they aren't going to be able to do that much though as we were a little bit too proactive in gettingn our CVs out to schools we're interested in - which means they can't represent us for them! Not sure if that's a good thing or bad thing. Sigh.
Just hoping to get a job sorted out soon as obviously have to resign by Oct 31st at latest. Was your wife working right up until you left?
