Hello everyone.
I just thought I'd post to let you all know that the move from Timaru up to Christchurch went pretty much hitch free. My work visa turned up well within time to allow me to start my new job and all my furniture arrived intact.
Work feels 100% better. I think it has something to do with having actually got this job off my own bat without an agent and it being in a field I know. I am very much enjoying it and feeling settled at work again is a huge part of feeling more settled in myself.
It's also absolutely easier to get on in a bigger city than it was in Timaru. I've lost that feeling of being trapped that I lived with for a few months. I also have a very good friend here and having her to go for coffee with and even just hang at the mall has made me feel like I've woken up after a long sleep. Plus I've slotted right into a new roller derby team so social networks are forming already.
I had my very first NZ earthquake a week or so ago (a little 4.0) and it put into sharper focus just how bad a time Christchurch has had. Every day I stay here I feel more determined to be part of this lovely city rebuilding itself and getting back on its feet and it's awesome to see that starting to happen.
All in all I feel this was definitely the right move for me and I feel much happier about being here than I did in Timaru. If I still feel the same way in a year I am going to be going for residency.

Great update, so pleased that you feel better in Chch. Provincial/small town NZ is not for everyone! All the best with your new start.

Hi Pom! I just found your original invite for coffee trying to find my old updates to re-read. Sorry I never replied! Still up for it some time?
Yes I think the optimism and grit is a bit infectious. Makes you stop and think about the things you usually moan about.

There is no denying that even despite everything that has happened, it is one very cool city. It feels like there is something for everyone. What I do know is that on 10-15 years it will be one of the best cities in the world.
We have been here 3 months now and I love it!

Hmm...knew it was all good to be true. Had a very nice, very civil conversation with my landlady today and she feels it's just not working, we can't relate to one another and it's probably better if I look elsewhere. No big deadlines or drama but I'm pretty gutted. This will be my 4th house inside 9 months in New Zealand. Roll on some security.

That sucks about the landlady. Did she specify why it's not working? You don't have any random habits do you?!

I have lived in ChCh since Dec 2011. Still loving it here. I enjoy wandering around the CBD at weekends and seeing what has changed - it's different every time!

Update on the update. I moved two weeks ago...wow where did that time go?? And am very happy in new flat
really nice girls. Love you Christchurch, you can stop wobbling now. City has a sense of humour, having another 4 when I was in the Quake City exhibit.
