UK midwife - working holiday visa.
Hi all,
Hoping someone can give me some advice please:
I am a UK trained midwife, currently have 14months experience.
I am planning on taking a 'career break' to go travelling at the end of 2019 (I will then have just over 2 years experience) for between 1 year and 18months and intend to get a working holiday visa for Australia and/or New Zealand.
I have heard that you can work as a midwife on a working holiday visa, but I just don't know which is the easiest way to go about this to get me started??
Should I contact hospitals directly when it comes to jobs? Has anyone done this and worked as a midwife whilst on a working holiday visa? - if so what have you done about accommodation also? If I'm right in thinking that hostels want you out in the day then I was unsure what would happen re night shifts etc, or do people manage to get private accommodation.
I'm not going out there just to work but I feel that it would really benefit my experience to be able to practice as a midwife in a different country and also allow me to keep some confidence for when I return home.
Also any advice regarding maintaining my UK NMC registration whilst I'm away would be great too!
Any help/advice will be gratefully received,
Thanks in advance!!
