Default Redcliffe Nurses

Hi,
Anybody worked at the Redcliffe recently?
I like the look of the area and hope to visit in 6 weeks time.
I'd love to know how you are getting on or how you found it if you have now left.
I have talked to a unit manager and she sounded great, really friendly and very supportive. All info about the hospital/ area would be greatfully received!
Also, while im here.. anybody know how to find out about time lines? I should know because i've been looking at the Forum for ages! Application was sent Nov 07, lodged Dec 17th 07. Waiting for case officer now. Thanks everybody, Lou Barker

Hellooooo!!!
I am a Redcliffe nurse!I love it!
I worked for 6 months at the RCH and hated it!It was the most frustrating place I have ever worked! Redcliffe is like a breath of fresh air.Small but personal and my unit(Kids Ward) have welcomed me with open arms!Been there 2 months and havent looked back.
Where are you working?

Hi there!
Got a post in the theatre department. I spoke to Joy Jenson and she sounded really down to earth and was really encouraging. She said not to worry too much about visa times and house sales etc. I've been in theatres for 13 years and nursing since 1986. I like my job now but am looking forward to the change.
Where about are you living and how old are your children? Ive got a 7 and 12 year old. Both boys. Redcliffe looks nice but its so hard to tell. We are coming out soon and are looking forward to getting around there.
Im glad you sound so happy in your post and am really grateful that you replied. If you can put up with me, do you mind me asking you some more info?
My hubby is a scientific officer and works in laboratories. Is the commuting distance to Bris ok and are there many jobs in science over there?
I've asked on the forum but am pretty stuck about his job prospects.
Thanks again and hope to speak to you again if you have time, Lou

Hi!
We live in Margate on the Redcliffe Peninisula-we love it here. The area is quite mixed and it def pays to really check out an area.We are close to the beach, parks .great swimming pools, shopping centres etc.My kids are 6 and 4 and we take Alana across the bridge to Brighton to school-its a great small, friendly school and she is thriving there.
Redcliffe is a 30 min drive(on a good day) to the city. The public transport is ok-you can catch a bus to sandgate train station and then a train to the city-10min bus journey and 30 mins on the train.Driving is OK and I used to do it but cos I worked shifts I avoided rush hour which can be very slow.
North Lakes is a very popular with British Expats and is only a 10 min drive away-very good schools, fab shops swimming pools etc.New houses but a litlte pricey. Its named "Little Britain" by the locals!I have e few friends living there who love it but there were too many British for us!(Not that I mind the Brits but I came here to live amongst the Aussies!)
I dont know anything about your husbands type of work-sorry!Maybe you could try a recruitment agency?
Anyway-we love it here and I love the ward I am on(just got a promotion today!!).Its all down to personal preference though and it takes a while to find your feet.
Hope this helps!!

I am a newly qualified nurse & am coming over in may (hopefully) to work in Redcliffe hospital...dunno what ward yet so any info on good/bad wards & if its 12 hr or short shifts would be great. was told at interview that we could sort out ward choice & stuff when i get over but would love to know any inside info !!! Also any info on relocation package offered by qld health would be great as michelle lawton has advised that it is not routinely given in redcliffe hospital:curse:
thanks jacq x

Hey!
Redcliffe is a really small hospital with only about 12 wards incl paeds and maternity. It depends what you are looking for.I love that it is small and really friendly-I have spent most of my career in large teaching hospitals on specialist paeds wards and really wanted a change of pace.We are busy on our ward but its very different to what I am used to.The hospital has a mixed rep(like anywhere) but I am finding it the best place I have worked in a long time.Unfortunately,we do short shifts and our lates finish at 11pm!!On our ward we are really pushing to do 10 hr nights but there is some resistance!
As for the relocation package-I received $5000 but initially worked at the Royal Childrens Hospital then transfered after 6 months.I would def push for it though cos QLD health do pay it and it seems unfair that Redcliffe dont.
Let me know if I can help in any way

hiya Andy,
I think I'll probably go for a medical ward to start as I'm just qualified & STILL not sure where I'd like to be long term...I have 2 kids aged 6 & 8 & have been checking out the schools in the area..how long does it take to get to brighton in the morning?? also what made you chose there rather than humpybong or scarborough as these are the ones I've been thinking of .Is there plenty for the kids to do in redcliffe?? plenty of other kids in the neighbourhood...we have lived in a cottage for a year now & my kids are so bored with no other kids to play with. Are there any dodgy areas in redcliffe I should steer clear of & which ones should I be aiming for ???
Sorry to be such a nuisance !!!!

Hiya!!
Very quick reply cos its nearly 1 am!!
We liked Brighton school and chose it before we moved to Margate then didnt want to move kids again.Humpybong and Scarborough seem ok too but you will get a better feel when you look around them.(I have just done an update which will explain more)
I dont want to get shot down in flames but I personally wouldnt live in Deception Bay-others may disagree(PM me and I will tell you why I feel like that).Margate has some good and not so good areas as does Clontarf and Kippa Ring.We love it here though and know loads of others living locally too who have lived here all their lives.
must go,PM me
Andy

Hi Jacq

have you got your visa sorted yet? What sort of things do you need to organise for the temp visa? And have you found it straight forward or not.

Cheers Fiona

Hiya Fiona,
I've found it quite straight forward coz theres a check list on the immi. website so its quite easily followed (so far) ...we got our meds & police checks done in January so I'm waiting :curse: NOT so PATIENTLY:curse: for my registration & transcripts to arrive so that I can start my visa application. Really cant wait to start the process for real...its dragging at the mo coz i want to do it NOW!!!
Was checking another post on here & they seem to be getting processed really quickly so still expecting to be ready to go in may.
cheers jacq xx

Hi Ruth,
The QNC nursing licence runs from 30th June to 30th June the following year and cost $90 each year. So if your planning to go next year you are better applying for it after 30th June this year. That will mean your licence will be valid til the 30th June 2009.

Surely you have to qualify here before you can apply to qnc? That would mean you cant apply until you qualify in June 2009 because you wont be uk registered and wont have a uk pin number.
