Nursing in the UK question

Nursing in the UK question
I'm thinking of training here in Canada before getting back into the UK. I'm wondering if anyone knows if there is an equivalent job in the UK (and what people who do this job are called) for an LPN (Licenced practical nurse)?
Here's what LPNs do here:
Any help would be appreciated! I feel like I've been to every site on the net about this.... Ta
Here's what LPNs do here:
Licensed practical nurses (LPNs) are employed in hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centres, doctors' offices, clinics, occupational health units, community nursing services and private homes. Those working in B.C. must have a licence. LPNs assist registered nurses and psychiatric nurses in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care. Although they work under the direction of physicians and nurses, they also make nursing judgements, provide required care for assigned patients and are responsible for their own nursing actions.

Re: Nursing in the UK question
Sounds like the equivalent to an enrolled nurse to me.
Becoming rare in the UK now, as many retire or convert to RN. None have been trained for over a decade.
Shame.
Maybe now like a UK Health care support worker level 3 NVQ maybe?
Just a thought.

answered this question on allnurses but for immigration purposes I think they will find it hard unless she has RN and is able to get a work permit which again is very hard to get at the moment

Re: Nursing in the UK question
Sara are you from UK originally? If you were, then there will not
be a problem regarding visa. I would encourage you to do the RN
for better job opportunities.Would you consider doing mental health nursing?
Not sure whether UK still trains and pays student RNs and RMNs like the old days.
If you want to know more about mental health nursing in BC feel free to PM me.
It is a blast working here on my unit as a mental health nurse.Good team to work with
and I am fortunate to be part of the team.

Re: Nursing in the UK question
*sigh* I find this all so freaking frustrating.
I'm not from the UK originally... I was born here in Canada. I got my British passport and only lived in the UK for about 8 months 6 years ago. I would have stayed longer, but had to come back for personal reasons.
I just KNOW that because I haven't lived in the UK for an extended period of time, and because I don't have an address there now, this whole dream of mine is going to be near impossible. I would love to do my RN, but I just don't have the money to pay what they want for international students... I don't know how much it is, but I know it's normally an insane amount.
As it is, I don't know how I'm even going to get my Husband and son over there without a huge headache... I have that question posted on the immigration boards. God, I just want to go home...
Thank you for the information though! At least I know the reality of it now.
