Smile Newbee - a few questions??...

Hi,

hoping to get some answers whilst im considering if working and moving to Australia is a viable option for me and family...

I am a registered paediatric nurse and school health/public health specialist, ...however for the past 5 years i am working for the council as a Specialist Young Parent Worker using my nursing skills to support teenage parents and their children on a whole range of issues. My NMC registration is current and continue to meet the requirements even though i am not directly employed by the NHS/health authority.

1) My manager is not a nurse or midwife, but one of my colleagues is a midwife (multi-agency team) so how would i get my reference required for the nursing board to be accepted?? (as it stipulates the reference should be from a manager/supervisor who must be a nurse or midwife) Could my manager give me a reference and it be countersigned by my colleague (midwife)??

2) If you have obtained a job offer in Australia before you move over (planning on renting rather than buying) do you still need to have seemingly thousands in the bank? From my reseach they are asking for $15,000 AUD for me, same for husband and $5,000AUD for each of my two children. $40,000 USD hence about £30,000 available in the bank???

I probably have £20,000 in equity in my house which i plan to rent out if we are able to make the exciting move to Australia, so will not be available as 'cash'. Are these amount of savings still needed with a proven job offer?

I know i will need money to rent, secure cars, flights etc and a bit over until we get settles but £30,000 UK pounds seems a little excessive?? Is this correct or am i getting it wrong??

Any help/advice would be great

Thankyou in advance
