Default Medical referred

Heard today that my medical reports have been referred. On what grounds I dont know.As far as I know I passed the medical!. I've been told this isnt unusual & not to worry but cant help worrying. Also means more delays. I had a few ops years ago [mainly 8yrs +] all unrelated ie hysterectomy, sinus op, knee op all fine since operations. so is this whats being referred ? Anyone else had medicals referred & how long did it take ?
Thanks Alison

Dear Alison

This is hearsay, but I have no reason to doubt that it is accurate.

According to JAJ, DIMIA caseworkers have to refer cases to the Medical Officer of the Commonwealth if the caseworker has reason to wonder whether the applicant's health/community care costs might exceed about $20,000 within the person's first 3-5 years in Australia.

As the DIMIA COs are unlikely to have any medical training at all, my guess is that all sorts of people's medical reports are being referred to the MOC when there is nothing wrong with the person concerned now, and no reason to suppose that there might be in future.

Plainly, a hysterectomy cannot need to be repeated ever, but what about your sinus and knee ops? Are they the sorts of things that might need further surgery at any stage? If the MOC is of the view that they won't, you should be OK. If the MOC thinks that they might, you might be asked to provide up-to-date reports from the relevant types of specialists.

But I wouldn't worry about it - might cost more money and delay matters awhile, only to prove you right in the first place! That would be very irritating, but heck - the prize would be worth it in the end, wouldn't it?

So try not to worry and I hope this reassures you a bit.

Good luck

Gill

Thanks Gill,
sinus op & knee op were both years ago & problem went away after ops. I have a friend who went to Sydney in August who is an insulin diabetic & they let her go so I cant think of any reason why I should be refused a visa based on that.So fingers crossed.

Hi I waited about 6 weeks & everything was fine [didnt even find out what i was referred on] Been out in Adelaide for nearly 3 months now & loving it!.
Good luck I'm sure everything will be ok, they seem to refer for the slightest reson, I was told they work from a sheet & they are non medical people. So anything listed on the sheet is refered to a medical person for review. I would chase it up though as i had xmas/new year when mine was refered & everything was shut for nearly 3 weeks of that 6 weeks.

Hi Alison thanks for your reply in regard to chasing them up i thought that IMIG didn't actually like you e-mailing them with regard to your application. Can you e-mail the health place in Sydney to see if they have finished with the meds tha have been referred if so do you know the e-mail?

I was using an immigration agency so they checked for me to see what was happening, infact i got the good news 2 weeks earlier than I was expecting it to. Immigration agency said about 10% of applications are reffered for medical reasons but they have NEVER known an application to be turned down. I'm sure everything will be fine.
