Licensed practical nurse
 

Just wondering how would an LPN (currently @ US) be able to start working in Australia? I believe they are called "enrolled nurses" there but what are the steps that one has to take after obtaining a visa (P.R) in order to start working? Any feedback will be appreciated.

Are you the visa applicant? If so, I don't think you would be granted a PR visa on the basis of an enrolled nurse qualification or its equivalent, you have to be a registered nurse and get your skills assessed by the ANMC in order to apply for the visa, unless things have changed.

However, you may already know this. If you are coming on a PR visa with a spouse, or on other skills, then I would imagine you would need to apply to the new national registraion board which will be up and running from July this year. Whether you would still need to get skills assessed by the ANMC as an enrolled nurse I'm not sure as I don't know anyone who has done this.

Here you say that you already had a skills assessment from a previous year?
I'm a little confused though as I was led to believe that you had to be a Registered Nurse with at least 3 year's training in order to get a positive skills assessment :confused: When my skills assessment came back from ANMC is stated "suitable for migration" did yours say the same? if yes, then I really don't see any problem with you finding work. There are lots of vacancies for enrolled nurses and I would suggest using www.seek.com.au :fingerscrossed:

Iam a RN with 4 yrs of training but my Oh is an LPN after a( career change). I got a positive skills assessment but now would like to know if anybody knows how enrolled nurses would also need to do in order to find work when we get there. Has anyone out there ever been registered as an enrolled nurse and found work:thumbsup::confused:

If you both have PR then I don't think your other half would have any trouble in finding work as an enrolled nurse as the next person. I know that they still have to register so maybe your best bet would be to contact the relevant nursing body such as QLD. I found their website and it clearly states "enrolled" so it is only my opinion, but once your other half has this then basically they can practice anywhere from 1st july.
