Hi
Know this is a stupid question but do you update your nurse registration with the NMC even though you are registered in NZ?
I would suppose it would make the process easier if ever to move back.
Just wondered what everyone else did?

I let mine lapse as AU and NZ are reciprocal countries for transferring back later if needs be.

If you plan to return to the UK it would be best to keep your registration active, otherwise I think you have to shell out for a 'back to nursing' course before re-registering with NMC.

Hi,
Not sure if I entirely agree with paying your annual NMC fee if you are not in the UK....
Please check with the NMC themselves but they did suggest that, as long as i worked sufficient hours as an RN & had evidence of such ie letter from employer/Overseas Nursing Council, then it would be a simple matter of reactivating my NMC registration on return to the UK...
Therefore no need for the return to practice course or to pay £73 or whatever the annual fee is.
Just give the NMC a call.
Good Luck

Yes. If you are registered in another country and want to return to the U.K you can just re register in the U.K as long as you have completed a minimum of 750 hours of registered practice within the last five years and have undertaken 35 hours of relevant learning activity in the last three years. If you have a look on the NMC website it is explained on there.
