Question Help please info req'd on nursing in Brisbane

We have done a few on line assesments that have said we qualify with full points. Phew. But I need some info regarding jobs for nurses and pay in Brisbane. I am a Reg nurse for 2 years specialised in non invasive ventilation, HDU and acute medicine. Are there any good agencies if so who and why. We really want to go over 23005 but worried about getting a job with good pay. I have a wife and 2 girls would like to know about the meetings that happen regularly so that we can make some friends in the same boat.

Thanks Rich

A general tip I would give is to sort out your permanent visa before you leave (much less stressful) and make a point of taking Australian citizenship after 2 years (variety of advantages).

Can't help on payscales. Immigration info is at http://www.immi.gov.au which should be your reference.

Hi
I am a registered nurse with four years theatre experience and we are moving out early next year (to Brisbane), I have investigated a few agencies and am more than happy to give you the lowdown on why I decided to reject a few and go with Affinity, they are based in Brisbane, and so far have been the best by miles.
To be honest the pay in comparison to the UK is not the same- but when you consider things like, cost of living, quality of life, its worth it!
You will have no trouble getting a post with your experience.
Give us a shout if you need any more info, did you know their is a forum in this site especially for nurses, its great reading for information and advice.

Hi and thanks. It is a relief to know that people are listening to my worries. Have you got a secure job then? It would be a great help if you could let me have the Affinity agency link you used. I thought this was the nurses forum I was on. Is there another one.
We will be applying through AMA I think unless anyone can tell me of another good one.
You are right beach, bbq's and a great way of living I suppose I should be grateful I can get a job in such an excellent country.
Beats taking the kids to the Brewsters on a rainy day.

Cheers

I have a job but the big hold up at the moment is trying to get a course transcript from where I did my nurse training- everything seems to take so long I just want to get things moving!!!
you are right you are on the nurse forum but cos I joined it from elsewhere I didn't realise that- sorry my mistake to many glasses of wine with dinner me thinks! The agencies website is www.affinitynursing.com.au, I am dealing with a girl their called Helen who has been great, I have found her the most helpful and least pushy of them all- and because they are based in Brisbane at least if you have any problems when you are their you can go see them and try and sort things out! Keep us updated on how things progress!

Hi

If you are going as PR,which is advisable, then don't bother with agencies.
just send your CV direct to several hospitals and see what response you get.

Agencies are really interested in easy to place basic grade nurses.

For Queensland try:

www.seek.com.au

Good luck

Hi Rich & Angie

I am an RN with 15 years experience in gastro / endoscopy, and am planning to head for Brisbane. I have just logded my skills assessment witih the ANMC, and have been advised I will hear from them in approx 5 weeks! We are heading out to Aus in 4 weeks 5 days!!!!! Where I plan to visit units and private clinics. We found a cost of living calculator on line which worked out to maintain the same standard of living I needed to earn the equivalent of £19.500 which equated to £26.400 here. They pay dependant on experience but as already said the cost of living seems to be the seller! Good luck and go for it we say!

You are not going to get less rain in Brisbane Probably twice as much as you get now.

You will find it cheaper if you register in Queensland first and then do the modified ANC skills assessment for your points. You have to register in a state anyway. It will save you several hundred dollars.

Good luck

Hi sorry to but in but have you thought of asking NMC for a training transcript, thats what I did as my school of nursing closed down quite a few years ago now. NMC sent it with the verification of registration, I had no problem with my skills assessment from ANCI.
We are also looking at Brisbane region. Will be setting of hopefully April 2005. After a bit of travelling along the way.
Good Luck everyone
