AHPRA = Joke

will try and summerise long story. Have done ielts and skills assessment through ANMC.

I applied for a job with QLD health in december and at same time submitted application to ahpra which was lodged on 16th december. I was told that processing time was 4 to 6 weeks although this could be slightly longer. I contacted QLD ahpra office after 5 weeks to be told it would take another 6 to 8 weeks from then. 3 weeks later, I thought i would give them a bell again last night, from uk, just to see how things were going. I was shocked to be told its going to be another 3 months from now. This is 3 months before my application will even be looked at - NOT processed.

I reckon it will take at least 7 to 8 months from lodging to finalisation.
whats even more frustrating is a friend had her rego through last week which took only 6 weeks with WA office.

Totally frustrating as i was the prefered candidate for the job and it has now been given to someone else. not applying for anything else until rego is through.

good luck to all nurses -looks like you will need it....:fingerscrossed:

hey there. which office did you lodge your application with? have you contacted them recently. QLD told me that they are working on applications from sept/oct.

Think its a disgrace they take money and sit it in their accounts and do nothing with the applications for several months.

Psyche28 Feb 15th 2011 8:59 am

Re: AHPRA = Joke

i sent my application first at Melbourne office because it was stated in their webiste when their office commenced last July. Then I have read somewhere in the website stating that the application process takes about 90 days and advised all applicants not to contact them within 90 days as it may delay the process of the applications. So I obediently heed their advice. Until such time 90 days lapsed still heard nothing from them, so I nicely sent ang online inquiry to make a follow up on my application status. Only to be responded with a question if I were an overseas applicant or an australian trained nurse. Then I responded that I am an overseas applicant and wished to practice in Queensland. Then another reply came informing me that my papers are then forwarded to the investigating team in brisbane, -that was November 2010 already take note I lodged my application last July.

Then when it reached Brisbane, it was finally looked at and told me that I lack some documents -which I have already submitted with my previous application. They also told me that they have not received my "Certificate of Good standing" which should be sent directly to their office. Instead of arguing where the document went, I just patiently requested another document and this time it will sent to Brisbane Office. Fortunately, early december the document that I requested for the second time finally reached brisbane office. It was confirmed also that all documents are in place.

Then the christmas Holiday and new year came, and the board will not meet until the middle of January and advised me not to receive updates until the end of that month. Then early this february I inquired again if there is any progress of my application, then I was told that it will be forwarded to the next board meeting on mid-March. :fingerscrossed: for the next month, as i have waited this long already, unable to work and earning not a cent.

It was depressing though, but what else can we do but to abide to their law. I just hope that these things will not happen to other applicants. And i hope that they have improved their system now, as it debelitated a lot of nurses waiting for their registration.

PS. piece of advice, if you are to send any document to any offices, always keep a tracking number. So that when the addressee claim they did not receive your document, you can always call the Australian Post office and track the document for you. Australian post office is so efficient and very kind to assist you.

I can understand your frustration. I lodged mine in September. Still waiting! However, they are in the process of an 'initial assessment'
Good luck!

Surprising!!! I submitted my application with AHPRA SA in september last year and I have not yet got my Rego. But payment has been taken off my account. Would it be a wise thing to follow on as to why they have not taken the money off? Good news is when I have spoken to them on the phone they have acknowledged being in receipt of my application.

You need to keep badgering them. Be a pest it's the only way to get anything done with them. Iwas on the phone every week. They won't send you any info. Took my application 5 months exactly.

Thanks for your advice. i have pestered them relentlessly and it has now emerged that they have not even taken payment since september due to a heavy applications work load. My case is yet to be allocated a case manager and they are unable to say when thi s might occur. Hence guess their reply? It might take anything between 4 - 6 months> What a joke!!!!

Hi I have been having a major problem with AHPRA and so far my application has taken 3 months. Until sep last year I had registration with the northern territory stupidly I forgot to re new as we were on our way back to Oz. Remembered by November and was told I needed to re register. But it wouldn't take long as AHPRA would have all my details!!! God knows how many calls and emails I have sent but got told in February I needed to fill out a different form and submit some more info, 2 months to tell me that. I was then told once I had done that it would all be processed in a week. I'm still waiting. Has anyone had any advice from a legal perspective as to AHPRA responsibility and processing time frames? I have a job but dont think my employer will hold on for 6-7 months waiting. Has anyone complained? Or got their local hospital or mp to investigate if so was the outcome successful? I am just trying to speed it up as I am the breadwinner in our house and we are running out of savings. I have bills, rent and children to feed so any advice would be greatly appreciated. It's getting desperate. Thanks for reading.

Ahhhh, this is sounding ridiculous now!

At at what stage did you apply to AHPRA?
I'm about to submit to WA for 176 state sponsorship so have done nothing yet about registering but if it's taking so long perhaps I should start lookng into it (and hope we get the sponsorship!).

Re: AHPRA = Joke

well someone took pity on me over there at ahpra and granted me my eligible for registration letter. thats the fab news! bad news is the job offer i had was withrawn a couple of weeks ago, due to them no longer prepared to wait on my rego coming through. Im not going to reapply if they readvertise. Weve now decided to continue down the SS route and apply for jobs if and when i have a PR visa. Have applied for sponsorship and just waiting on a decision. Then hopefully its 176 here we come!!! Have got 12 months to present with visa id at an ahpra office, to complete full registration.

Piece of cake!

Hi all,
I send my application first week of December and they took payment on feb 8th.
I spoke to them yesterday and this guy said that 'we got all ur papers and its with one of the assesment officer; they will contact you thru email within 2-3 weeks time'
Friends, is their any hope...? Does it mean my papers are ok?
Also, if I am registered what is the next procedure? find an employer or proceed with ANMC? How long ANMC process would take..?
Thanks for ur reply.

depends on what type of visa you want to go out on. if its a temp employer sponsored visa then you wont need a skills assessment with anmc. get a job, get them to sponsor you on a 457 and present at the ahpra office with your visa on arrival. if however you want to go over on a 121 visa or another permanent type, them you will need to do the anmc bit. the anmc takes a minimum of 12 weeks to come through.
when i got assigned an officer through ahpra they contacted me straight away to reuest a couple of outstanding documents. if its been a coupkle of weeks for you then id say that was a good sign. However this is ahpra we are talking about so take nothing for granted:eek:

Thanks for your quick reply...I am looking to go on PR basis. That case, do I need to find employer before applying to ANMC? What I understand is once registered with AHPRA, we need only modified assesment. Isn't it?

its a little more tricky than that because you wont actually be fully registered until you present at an ahpra office with your visa. you will only receive a letter stating that you are deemed eligible for registration. this is known as an 'in principle' letter.
From what ive read and heard, the in principle letter is not enough for a modified assessment with anmc as you need to be fully regisitered. Looks like you will have to do the full anmc assessment if you want a PR. i would contact anmc by email to clarify this though.

If you want to get out there quicker, get a job then get out there on a temp visa, for which you dont require skills assessment, and do anmc skills assessment at a later date, and apply for a PR following, out in oz.
i did anmc first, then ahpra.
good luck:fingerscrossed:

As I don't have IELTS (I have submitted proof for secondry school english education), I cannot go for a full assesment. Anyway, pls share information you may receive from ANMC.
I think, I should find an employer first; that is the option I have..

hey. once eligible for registration, get a job! the timelines all depends on police checks and references. once you have ref/police clearance, the employer, if pre agreed, will submit a nomination for you to diac. once this is in then you complete your online 457 visa application, upload scanned supporting documents and wait to be told to get police checks and medicals.(you can pre arrange these apprently to speed up the process). Thats as far as im aware, others may wish to correct me though:huh:

The whole porocess from interview to having visa in your hand can be as quick as a couple of months to six months.

the actual visa application can be as quick as week to 2 weeks!!

hope that helps:fingerscrossed:

I will graduate this September and plan to apply for my registration through APHRA straight away when I get my NMC pin through. Does anyone know of any potential problems because I will be newly qualified with no post registration experience? I am able to get a working holiday visa and have been told by a few employers that my application for jobs will be considered provided I have a visa and registration

Hi all,
I have posted my application in December and they took payment in February. Last month I contacted them and they said my file is with an assessment officer and they will contact me within 3-4 weeks. I contacted them again after 4 months, then they says your file is not allocated to an assessment officer...!!?? Is this office in Somaliya or in Australia...!!????? I think, if they hand over this office to school childrens , they might handle it more efficiently than this idiots....!!

Does any one know whether it is possible to use a letter of "eligibility to register" issued in another state say South Australia of it can be used in another state? My AHPRA registration has taken long such that I may not have the offered job in SA when it comes out but there are lots of mental health jobs in Sydney.

its australia wide, so yes you can use it in any state you wish. you can also present at any office to finalise it. same happened to me. lost a job offer because they could not get their finger out. however used it to our advantage and am going to a different stae instead. thats as long as we get a visa:fingerscrossed:

Thanks Wattsburg, Infact i spoke to the case manager at AHPRA SA this morning and was told that my application is being tabled before the registrations committee and would be informed in the coming weeks the final decision in the post. It has been a long agonising wait.................... but it would be great to move on and start other processes ahead such as visa application.
