Default 137 - state sponsorship visa

Hi everyone

Has anyone applied recently via this route, if so then can you let me know how long it took and clarify that you do only need 70 points as long as you have obtained state sponsorship. I seem to be talking myself into the notion that I have done it wrong. and will grt rejected.

You only have 6 weeks (less, really) to apply for the 137 visa in its current form.

Thanks for the reply, the courier service is booked for thursday next week, so it should definately get there in time.

I'm still concernered though, as not many people seem to have gone via the 137 visa route and i just wanted some clarity before i post it.

hi,
I'm trying to go down this route too, but still waiting to hear whether we've even got state sponsorship - did the online application 5 weeks ago, first they didn't get my cv, but didn't tell me til 2 weeks later, i sent it again, still nothing, emailed them last week, and was told "still awaiting decision - should only be another week", at this rate will miss the 31 aug cut-off date!
how long did it take for your state sponsorship to come through?

Why don't you apply for the Skill Matching visa (subclass 134)? There is no visa application fee unless you get nominated.

This visa will be closed to new applicants on 1 September.

Or do you have 120 points? If so, why not just apply for the 136 visa?

thanks for your reply,
i'm already here in perth on a 457, only got 115 points so can't yet apply for 136, if new regulations weren't coming in on sept 1st would've been able to have upped points by having 6 months australian work exp, but started work here on march 6th so have lost out by 6 days! and the visa which is replacing 136 asks for 12 months australian work experience for the extra points!
employer won't sponsor for PR til been working for them for 12 months so i'm trying for the 137 stni but feel time is running out!

Once again. Have you considered the subclass 134 visa? (Skill Matching)

If you don't understand what this is get urgent professional advice (check you have 6 months work experience either in Aus or overseas in the last 12 months). This visa does close to new applicants on 31 August.

thanks again JAJ,
i have just been reading up on the 134 visa, only got one question - i'm currently in WA and wish to stay here, what would happen if i was nominated by another state, do i have to accept their nomination, am i allowed to refuse a nomination (or will the visa fee be taken as soon as a nomination is lodged)?
regards,
Louise
